I look at it as being no different than a helmet.

It's sole purpose is to protect the delicate stuff inside. If you have a crash of any magnitude at all, the helmet has done it's job if the head inside is still intact.
Helmet will gladly be replaced at that point.

Personally, my Givis have survived a couple drops over the last few years, with nothing but very minor cosmetic scuffs, which would have been much worse on the bike without the bars.
Thankfully I haven't had to test them with anything more serious.

Anyone have the torque values for the bolts to install the Givi crashbars? My computer with my service manual crashed.

I was knocked off my Worldcrosser in 2014 by an aging myopic driver who turned out in front of me. I got my speed down to about 5 mph before dropping the bike.

Due to the angle of his car the Givi crash bars side swiped his wing (fender?) and drivers door and then hit the road.

The same crash bar took both hits and was totalled but the bike was relatively unscathed.......just a few scratched here and there. I also think the crash bar saved my leg when I hit the car. Both me and the bike were able to ride home

In my book they did their job. They had to be replaced along with the scratched parts. That was not my problem as his insurance was paying!

Just ordered the Givi crash bars for my ‘24 S10. Came through shipping a bit rough. At least they are refunding me 1/4 of the overall price. Just waiting to install them. Good reading about the history of these and to see if they have improved the overall reliability of the bars.

How did your install go? I wasn't happy with the fit and finish of some of the metal pieces - didn't properly line up which means there's excess tension/torque on it. And I had to run the bolts through a die to clean them up as they didn't go in smoothly. I put lots of loctite on most of the bolts so it should hold!

I did have to add/remove bolts and adjust the sequencing on which part to put in first. Definitely a 2/5 for instructions. Once I got the sequencing right, went way smoother.

Saturday I was putting air in my tires so pulled on the left front Givi bar to get the weight off the front tire so I could rotate it and reach the valve stem and the front left mounting point of the Givi crash bar sheered right in half. I was like WTH? If it can't handle a tug how will it handle a drop. Very disappointed in the quality/longevity. I ordered a few new M8 1.25X6 bolts from Amazon.

Here is a pic of the sheered bolt

I'm also not impressed with my Givi bars. I ended up buying the side mounting bolts from Home Depot instead of using the crappy bolts that came with the package. I also added nuts to the end of the bolts and used loctite on both - this helps relieve stress on the threads on the bike holding the bolt. It still didn't fit perfectly so I've got some sheer stress on some of the bolts. We'll see if they hold!

Prob over tqed. Installer is likely to blame. Givi prob doesn't even make the hardware.

That should work, hopefully :) Someone told me that the stainless steel bolts are generally very brittle. I ordered a set of three different length black bolts with locking nuts. It was fairly easy to install so we'll see if these fare better than the stock bolts. Good luck with your solution.

You kinda want those fixings to fail first in a prang. Don't go high tensile, stainless is too brittle, bog standard mild and don't over tighten. IMO
