Re: First trip
Four of us pulled out of town last Friday around 9AM. Our destination was to head towards SW Colorado. Our mission was to enjoy Colorado's amazing scenery, find and ride some fun roads, and get away from town for a few days. We succeeded on all counts IMHO. I won't cover each and every road we hit but the highlights were: 145 down San Miguel canyon, around to Unaweep, then through Colorado National Monument. From there it was a climb up Grand Mesa on 65, down to the Black Canyon to Gunnison. Then we just hit Monarch Pass back to Denver and Colorado Springs. All told we covered around 1000 miles in 3 days. I have a bunch of pictures to post but just noticed the restrictions on size/quantity and unfortunately, none of the pictures fit those restrictions... sorry. Next time I'll take more cell phone pictures...
Got the pictures figured out! Here are a few quickies!
Foursome at Colorado National Monument... Tenner, two GS800's and a beautiful Strom!
Craig on his way to Gateway...
Rex heads North as well..
Campsite view at Crawford Lake State Park..
The loaded up Tenner at CNM...
Scenery ... the blurry stuff on the side of your face shield.
Sunset day 1 at Ridgeway State Park
Since this is a Tenner forum, here's what I have to say about the bike after this trip:
1) Must do the seat mod. The forward cant on the seat is uncomfortable, even with the Airhawk.
2) If you have the OEM panniers, make sure you loctite the tiny T10 torx that hold the lock mechanisms together. I don't recommend noticing the lock looking loose, removing the key and having the entire mechanism remove itself on the key. And, of course, the tools needed to unlock the pannier were inside.
3) For my riding style, the majik number is around 5300 RPM. Everything works there and it's smooth as butta!
4) The handling, even when loaded, is still amazing to me. On more than one occasion I found myself in triple digit (indicated) speeds enjoying sweepers.
Loved the bike and we had a great time!
