Got a speedo today. 250 dollar fine. The cops were great, made me feel like it was just bad luck. Got a police escort for about a mile. Bike cop was fascinated with my bike and we discussed the details of the S10 vs his BMW whilst I got breath tested. I started some story about me driving +8% over speed limit because of the way the Japanese bike manufacturers like to be conservative with the speedometers and he told me, "that's funny, a guy told me once that his speedo was inaccurate above 150km/h, and he said he was doing 150 to 160, but my speedo (the police cop's) was saying 200kp/h :) I suppose they hear it all. Take care out there...

That sucks, Trinc. Good they were friendly about it anyway. I'm due one for sure, but they just don't do much of that up here fortunately. Once you get a couple miles outa town, you're pretty well home free.

How come they are reading you in km/hr ?? Just curious. R

Yeah, I don't think there's too many that get out of a ticket. I once got a written warning when I got pulled over by a Vermont cop on my way to a ski area. It was about 12:30AM and I guess I looked a little tired after driving for 7 hours.

The second time I got pulled over they knocked the ticket down to a "failure to obey a traffic device," which is about a $108 fine and no points. I figure that's the standard issue, who's going to fight a $108 ticket with no points? Good 'ol revenue generation. A driving tax, I guess.

Cause I live in Sweden. I have this habit of converting everything into US units when I write posts at this site (well most of the time)...

The town I live in is small, but is notorious for heavy traffic police monitoring of a stretch of "interstate" highway that passes our town. I reckon the entire town's police force were there. Big old welcoming committee where they were already processing about seven or so other drivers when I pulled in. It was the full show including police traffic inspectors who gave my bike a good once over...BTW, I was only 10 km/h over the limit. The fines are quite steep here. Wife says I am not allowed my weekend beer for a month now :)

Bummer on the ticket RMac! Friend of mine and I got stopped a while back on a back road southeast of Denver on our way to Castle Rock for breakfast. County-Mounty pulled us over and he had me dead-nuts for a double-yellow pass. We were also a bit over the speed limit, but that was not mentioned. My buddy had left his registration and proof of insurance in his other tank bag which also set him up for a ticket. When he hit us with his lights, we stopped and did everything by the book and I think this impressed the guy - along with the full gear and gray hair when our helmets came off. Perhaps the VETERAN and RETIRED ARMY license plates helped too as he just gave us a written warning and sent us on our way. :)

That's my kind of cop. The RCMP, who do all enforcement up here (no city police at all) are almost always quite courteous and good to deal with. As they are a federal police force, they are highly trained and are big on PR. You can always find a dipstick from time to time, but generally they are good guys.

Another awesome day here today. Red sky in the morning, shepherd's pie .. I always say. There is a little bike show downtown today, where you polish up your bike and park it in front of the federal building and folks can come and ooooo and aaahhhh over it. I won't participate, but I'll go have a look. I bet next year there will be a few Teneres there. R
