Well, I finally bought the Super Tenere. I picked up a red 2015 (non-ES) a couple of weeks ago. I've wanted one for a while, and finally pulled the trigger. I live in Southeast Alabama and the dual-sport is not as popular here as in some parts of the world. In fact, the local dealer had to get the bike from another dealer several hours away. I've only put about 600 miles on it in two weeks, but after the 600 mile service tomorrow I hope to get it out for a longer trip within the next week.

I learned on a Yamaha 80 cc dirt bike back in the 70s. I graduated to my brother's Honda Scrambler 175 then to the Yamaha RD350 that he bought. I bought my own Yamaha 650 Special while I was in college and rode it into the ground. For many years I raised kids and did other things, but I knew I would eventually come back to a bike.

A few years ago, I bought a Yamaha Vstar 650 (with 150 miles). I got back used to riding putting about 8K on this bike, but I wanted something better for longer rides. So I sold it and found a great deal on a 1989 GoldWing 1500. I put about 30K miles on it before T-boning a car. That was totally my fault, and I still have plates, screws and pain from it.
:'(
When I healed and decided to get back on a bike, I wanted to try the dual-sport route. I bought a new 2012 Suzuki Vstrom 650 Adventure. I wanted the Tenere then, but I decided to save a little money and get the Vstrom. I really enjoyed this bike and put about 22K miles on it in three years. The only things that I disliked was the chain drive, a little buzzy at interstate speed and no cruise control. When cruise control became standard on the Tenere, I thought it was time to try it out.

So far I really like the bike. The only thing that I am not a big fan of is the windshield. I need an inch or two more height than it has in the top position. In time I might consider swapping it out for an aftermarket version. Other than that, I am very happy with it. I hope to get to the Tennessee / NC mountains this weekend and really try it out.

Sorry for the tome. I promise to be more brief going forward. I'll also round up and post a few pictures from my trips.

Greetings from Malta and welcome to the forum. Quite a similar history - started on a Yamaha YB100 in late 70s/early 80s. Then lately had a V-star 650 and now a 2013 S10.

My first suggestion it to replace the shaft drive guard, on the left side by your foot, with one from AltRider. I, and several others on this site, has commented about getting ones pant leg caught and then either falling over or almost falling over. I did...and separated my left shoulder. Once you go to Altrider and look ant their replacement part you will see exactly what I am talking about.
You will love this bike. I love my 2014ES.
