A friend and I will be doing a day loop out of Santa Fe next month. I'll be on the S10 and he'll be on a BMW F800GS. We'd like to stay on dirt/gravel roads as much as possible but not too technical as we both have the original 90/10 street/dirt tires on our bikes (this will change once they're worn out) and neither one of us are expert dirt riders.

Here's what I've come up with so far. What do you guys think or suggest changing?

I would top off the tanks at White rock, keep the TC on as this stuff is like Talcum powder in some places and some of this stuff turns into nothing but Cow trails.
And watch out for the 4x4 Hombres... I got ran off the road two Sundays ago guy just came ripping around a turn and I had to pull off a stupid move not to get whacked no Traction control on pulled a quick turn on solid rock with plenty of powder under me and pirelli scorpion AT's..

Oh and the guy never looked back (nice)!! >:D
Hit the ground like a sack of Potatoes and jacked my right knee the one that got smashed last June when I was T-boned on my Triumph 1050 Tig..

Other than that It looks like a fun ride..

Another great run but with some chunky off road tire action is this..
Pecos,NM to Tererro, NM about 1/4 on the right up the road onto Davis Willow Road.
I can't get the points to continue but you keep taking Davis Willow Rd to Forest Rd 645 (Elk Mountain Rd) to 218 up to Elk Mountain Weather Station!!
Some of these roads off the side are Mud pits in spring to July I just stay on stuff that is dry..

That is not a short day in the saddle, but I think you will enjoy it. Half the roads you mapped out are paved, FYI, and the others are forest service roads, some of which may be a bit nasty in places. Also, I don't know the area off Hwy 30, but it looks like it goes through a reservation, so there might be locked gates somewhere. I stay off the res at all costs, as they can get touchy if you end up in their back country.

Beautiful country. I will be up there this weekend.

Nice route. I have made many Google Map maps and never discovered how to make them... though would like to know. Looking at yours and adding a few gas stops... http://goo.gl/maps/pHA1D

How can I tell where the reservation is?

I drilled down on my route even tighter with Google Maps and I'm wondering if some of these roads are accessible at all. Much of it seems to be two track roads in the middle of BFE. I probably need to do a little more thinking about it.
