I have a low mileage 2018 7k. I am very sure the basket springs are loose or at least 1 is loose causing noise in low rpms and no load conditions. It is annoying. It there a fix to shim springs or maybe a recommended replacement basket non OEM or is a new basket the only fix?
Thanks

Sorry, can’t help with the rattle. Really difficult with rattles and the internet. The cam chain/CCT perhaps, but unlikely on a Gen2 on that mileage. These engines are notoriously noisy…….is it a new noise?

wow any idea about the rattle? bike is smooth as glass no vibrations just that noise thanks for reoly
What pops into my mind is check the anti-chatter spring at the back of the basket. Make sure it’s still sitting in the groove / has not broken / or one of the two little mounting tabs has not broken.
All of these are (or would be) very rare. But you hearing a rattle with a modem basket, this just might be the chatter you are hearing. The little anti-rattle (clip) keeps it from the chatter.
I would eye-ball to make sure that is all correct and nothing wrong.

Also note, thats hardened spring steel. You want no part of that going anywhere in the motor. If you find that one of the ears has come off that is easy to replace. **more importantly** you want to find that little ear (clip). Pull the pan and look in the oil pump pick up screen or the bottom of the pan. Find it if you can.

Ear plugs! My 2014 is definately noisier idling in neutral than if I pull the clutch. I've started riding with a skull cap in addition to the ear plugs. Even quieter.

Thanks for reply It has been there since I got it at 6k but seems to be louder.... i havent ridden it in those 1k miles logged as i let a friend ride it while visiting in florida and i rode my new bike that is very quiet.

I am thinking it is basket or gear train related because a cam chain tensioner shouldnt change noise level with load only rpm.
So the new baskets dont have springs but maybe those shit rubber pellets. I may remove and shake itr like a baby to see it it makes any noise.

Thanks all for replies!

Yamaha replaced the clutch basket springs with rubber dampers starting with the 2nd gen models in 2014. They have been pretty much trouble free since.

Does it get quieter when you pull the clutch lever in? My bike is a rattle box but is quieter when I pull the clutch lever in. that stops the rod and ball from bouncing around in there that pushes the pressure plate open. When I ride my FJR and then get back on the Super T It sounds like it is going to blow up. It really isn't any worse I just had gotten used to a quiet bike. They are just noisy bikes.

i just lit it up in garage and dont notice any difference with clutch pulled in only when riding do i notice it.and it varies with load if i let off a certain amount it will go away gas it and it seems ok. I may ride it tonite and gather some more info. My buddy road it about 100 miles on i95 in florida at 70-95 there dont seem to be any issues other than the noise. I know when I went long distance on it this spring I had to pop in the ear plugs due to wind road and engine noise.
