Can't get CCT to retract

The first time I adjusted my valves, I had just the usual trouble pushing the cam chain tensioner rod in. Now I'm doing the valves the second time and I can't get the tensioner to move in. I've read every post on cam chain tensioners we have but can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I think the problem is that I let the piston move too far out past the clips. Is there something I have to do to get the threads started? I'm turning and pressing like last time but it won't budge in. I use the vise to push and turn method and its a 2014. Any help or input would be very welcomed.

I think you almost have it judging by your pic. This is the old one out of my 12 but it goes together and resets the same as the 14+ model.
Once you have the piston assembly past the second wire clip, turning it clockwise while pressing in on mine was enough to get it started and I could actually get it to retract in part way by hand. My experience with the 14+ model is it's a lot harder to retract and if you can at least get it to catch and start, then try the Cclamp or drill press method to finish retracting it.

Also go at the retracting slow. Don't clamp a vise and expect it to turn and retract. Put the vice on with very little pressure while turning then tighten the vice slowly as it retracts. I know when I bought my new tensioner, I needed to verify it functioned before install, so after letting it extend, I fought retracting it for a long time, until going slow proved easy to retract.

Use a small impact gun with the right size socket and a pice of rubber and it will go back real easy.

Sounds like you have to start by holding the circlip off the first notch just to get it started. Brought my CCT to my Dealer and it only took him 45 minutes to retract the new Gen 2 one. Its definitely tougher than the Gen 1 CCT. ::025::

I've done both with the small impact and it takes a few seconds. Wish I was home so I could take a few pics.
