No doubt Wasp (Greg) gave a better review....just wanted to put my time in (and pad my post total). One of the few initial mods I bought before the bike arrived were the California Scientific shorty tinted screen and the AltRider skid plate. Waiting on the first service for the AltRider but the CalSci shield went on last night. First - quality was top-notch to include packing, shipping and extras. They shipped wrapped with a t-shirt sleeve over the shield along with a tire gauge, micro-fiber cloth and shield cleaner. Nice touches all around that show they care about their product and their name. The shield went on easy and tried the low position first. Clean air all around - seemed cleaner than stock but there was definitely more air hitting my shield. Not so bad in the heat we have experienced all summer and definitely a nice shield for secondary roads and side trips. The short interstate section I hit was fairly windy but livable. All in all a nice summer-time shield and a quality product. I am going to try the high position tomorrow and update should things be much different. The only thing I would change given a second chance would be adding the CalSci well nuts and knob screws to the order. No doubt they would make shield changes easier in the future.

Ride safe.

Hi Wulfgar,
(Sorry for the formality, just don't know your name). Thankyou for the report. To me that windscreen sure looks good on the bike. If the buffeting at speed you guys often talk about is no worse than the stock one, then that tinted shorty is the one for me. You know, looking at your profile where you live you may have bought your bike from those good people Renae (An absolutely wonderful lady) and Jerill. It is people like these that make me proud of my southern "upbringing". Thankyou again. I pick up my bike from them on the 27th (had some trouble financing due to the bikes unanticipated early arrival). Looking forward to meeting these fine people as much as getting the bike.

I'm currently running the CalSci tinted shorty in the upper position and I find it is much better (less buffeting) than in the lower position. There is still a lot of air movement which is great for warm weather. I don't know if I would run it on a long tour but it's great for day trips and running around town.

Good call - the higher position is definitely better ( and looks better to me, should that matter). Did about 120 odd miles this morning and had good, clean air the whole time. A great looking shield and exactly what I expected as far as performance. I would agree that interstate travel of any distance or cool weather will call for a taller shield.

I bought the shorty and also the large touring screen.

I find the shorty works excellent around town with seat in low position and wearing full face helmet (Arai Corsair).

With the touring screen I can wear my Arai XD3 and even with the duckbill/peak, there is little to no buffeting.

I cound not find the thread with the guy that recommended Cal Sci, but I have to say "thanks!". I am set now. :)

Bringing back this thread -- now.

I just put on the CalSci short tinted screen a couple days ago. So far I like it. I like the looks (probably would have chosen clear if it was offered) and it is better for me than the OEM screen that came with bike. I am 6'3" maybe 6'4" as I can't remember when I last measured and I may have shrunken in my 53 years of uprightness. Inseam is 34 to 35". The next try for me and my buffeting would be the extra large CalSci. This short screen will be great for the hotter months around here. Buffeting is for sure less but still there. It does not seem as loud now. I need to do an extended trip because these tests have all been short ones. Also I didn't realize I could mount it in two positions, I'll give it a try as it seems one inch lower could do it perfectly for me.

I just received the side screens so will have to try them. Went out to put them on and of course the rain started. Also bought the Yamaha/PIAA sports horn. The slim-line 112db 500 hertz version. Got this all from http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/. They work for me. I got this and the Yamaha side panniers from them. Very fast shipping even thought they said it would be twice as long I received in half the time ...

I have to say I got the knobs and it is really super easy to swap the screens now-!! Well worth the $11 I think they cost from CalSci. My screen seems nicely finished around the edges. They are not polished but I never would have noticed if I hadn't read some riders saying the finish was ruff. Also the packaging was fantastic as was the towel, screen cleaner w/ spray bottle and a nice tire pressure gauge that is dead nuts on with my two other gauges. Thanks CalSci-!!!

OK my input so far is done. I am happy which is a good thing, no-?

Best,
DT

I have the clear medium and it is hands down, no contest the best windscreen I have ever ridden behind. 5'-10" and I sit in still air. The shape, contour and air duct cutout make for perfect airflow. Lowers the noise in my helmet, eliminates any buffeting and creates a calm air pocket that is is a pleasure to sit in hour after hour.

The only down side,,,,,drumroll,,,,,, is that on hot days there is a shortage of cooling air flow. May need to get the Wasp bracket to lay the screen down on hot days.

Great company, great website (you could read for months on the stuff they have in there), and science based design.

Hmmmm I will have to give another look at the Wasp Bracket. I went for a spin with the side screens and the short CalSci screen. I noticed that there is no buffeting but seems to be a more even flo of air over my upper body. At first I felt it was no improvment but realized it was kind of all evened out. No buffeting for sure but maybe more air flow overall. I am thinking it will be just perfect for the warmer months and as for the colder winter it is no worse, no worse at all. I will have to experiment with the side screens off and the screen in the hi and low positions to get a better feel as it were .... all in all still very HAPPY-!!

Just installed the CalSci tinted shorty using a Madstad bracket and runing with the Yamaha wind deflectors.

It is a couple of inches shorter than stock and the sides curve back a bit more, ie they are "less flat" to the wind...it functions more like a flyscreen and just covers my GPS when used in the lowest position and tilted all the back toward the rider.

Did a 200 mile run.
Air flow goes over the top of my head (5'll", 34" inseam) and is quiet and not turbulent wearing my Arai RX7 helmet and ear plugs.

I get plenty of air and think this will be my warm weather windscreen. May go back to the stocker with Madstad for the colder months.

I'm still not sure about riding long distances at speed with the Arai XD3 with visor...I'll have to ride some more and evaluate it...
I think there is a bit of turbulence caused by the visor and not sure there is any real solution...which is sad because I like that visor and the larger eye opening...it is great off road though...
