Well...been wicked busy with work and......well...work. Every May, my company has weekend conference in Missoula MT. Just was there for the first time and LOVED IT! So, next year, I say to my bud, "I would like to ride out there." Since getting into racing and trackdays, I have stepped out of the long haul ride for riding sake...but I think I am ready to step back in. So, I introduce the BatShit Crazy tour of 2013.....

This will be my (and my buddy's) first epic journey. Most I have traveled is 300-400 mile loops. Nevertheless, I am stoked! We will be starting and ending in Richmond, VA. Any suggestions/comments will be whole heartedly accepted.

Really hope the Road to the Sun is open.

Also, have ridden Alpine, AZ to Clifton, AZ back in 2004. Great ride.

Thoughts on riding after Clifton? Should we venture South of the border? I am concerned as I have read that Mexico is safe, but stay the fark away from the border.

Anyways, I will be updating as we progress. Right now, we have a google map, my Tenere, and that's it. Riding buddy has a Speed Triple, but will be picking up an Explorer or a Tenere.

lol! Good name. :D

If you move the line slightly west from Charlotte, you could stop at the bat caves in Bat Cave, NC on your BatShit tour. :)

If you get serious about this, check with the guys at Texas Adventure Company. They've been doing exploratory dual sport excursions down south of the boarder and have some good insight on where and where not to go. The main guy with this group spoke about it at the texas adventure rally last month and seemed to think that the problem areas could be easily avoided.

Well...we got together with cuban food, microbrews, butler maps, the UTBDR DVD, and google maps...think we have it tentatively planned out.

Leg 1 = http://goo.gl/maps/ZG99
Leg 2 = http://goo.gl/maps/Zo5T
Leg 3 = http://goo.gl/maps/3hux

For those that have the UTBDR map, we are going to try to do Section 7 and 8..only backwards. Not marked on the google maps link, as google no likey dirt roads. Also, may be some rerouting, as some roads may not be open that early. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we will not be making it as far south as I would like...but there is always more adventure waiting in the wings.

now...need to get the bike in order....and may try to take the Rawhyde course in January...anybody in?

Well, the route has been modified a bit to me mate's office schedule.

Though, now I am worried about it being too early. Obviously, it will be cold as poo in Canadia...but is May 13-19 too early for northern parts of the UTBDR and parts of CO?

I would rather put it off to the later part of the year if it means riding conditions are doable. thoughts?
