Bolt(?) holes at top edges of the fairing

There are two holes at the top edge of the fairing, on both sides of the bike, just below the handlebars. What is/was supposed to be mounted there?

If they're the one in the recessed "notch", that is where you mount your side "wings". Many have mounted them to reduce buffeting, or change the airflow. They are aftermarket.

Ah, gotcha. I had figured maybe they were for some kind of bracket for holding electronics/route maps/instrumentation like the Dakar bikes used.

Sierra1 is correct. Only add to his comments is that the side deflector wings are available for both generations of Super Tenere, but are different shapes due to the Gen II bikes having the windscreen adjuster. Yamaha offers their versions and the aftermarket has a couple more.

Gen I part number is: 23P-F83M0-V0-00

Just a caution, that second ebay link describes the wings for the Gen II, but the images are of those for a Gen I. Don't know if they were just lazy with the photos or what.
