Noticed this beautiful 2012 with 600 miles for sale on craigslist in San Diego:

He's asking too much considering that new 2013s are available for less than $12k, but he'll figure that out eventually.

Always kills me when sellers claim "no tax" on a private sale. The state always gets its piece. You do save $800-$1000 on setup and delivery fees and other piddly dealer fees. I think those black '12s are sweet!

There are well equipped '12's for in the $10,500 to $11,000 and 5k mile range available in a number of places. I suppose they'll be dropping to the $10,000 to $10,500 area when the '14's are announced.
Yea, those black ones are cool, but the BLUE ONES ARE SO MUCH FASTER!!

Gorgeous bike. Brand new. But yes, current prices at the dealers are hard to ignore.

Not sure about Cali, but in Nevada, there is no tax on sales between private parties..... FYI

Out here you have to pay a "use tax" when transferring a vehicle between private parties, and the use tax is equal to the local sales tax. In other words, you pay sales tax (8% where I live) to the state when you buy the vehicle, even if the seller paid sales tax to a dealer yesterday. I imagine it's like that in most states, but don't know. It's a huge disadvantage for private sellers because they really have no price advantage over dealers, and with dealers you at least have some chance at recourse if you get screwed.

With the incredibly f'ed up state of things politically in CA I frequently wonder why I still live here. Then I walk outside and remember.

Even in the great state, they RIP YOU OFF when you sell a vehicle between private parties. I think its criminal that I can't GIVE my own children a car or truck without paying sales tax AGAIN on the vehicle.
It's outrageous. I'm not selling it to them.
Used to not be like that here.

Sorry. Rant over.

Go ahead and rant Snake. Here the sales tax (4%) is paid when the vehicle is licensed. So I guess if it was licensed yesterday the tax was paid, then if sold and licensed again tomorrow it's paid again.
