First time posting. Have read a similar thread where battery were connected backwards after I did the same dumb thing. Nothing when I turned the ignition on. I did trouble shoot a blown main fuse (was also surprised how difficult to find at a local auto or motorcycle store) and the electronic throttle valve fuel fuse and replaced both. All other fuses on bike have been check multiple times and if suspect, replaced. Bike now turns over but won't start. I do smell a slight amount of fuel but could be I'm flooding the bike trying to start it. Battery is brand new and on a tender. Have I missed something else?

. . . . Have I missed something else?
Make sure you let the initial startup self-diagnosis do its thing. Couldn't believe it when I forgot this week. Turned the key on and immediately hit the starter button. DOH!!. Did not start, but cranked. Turned the key off, then back on. Throttle wide open and hit the starter button. Fired right up.

You also might have damaged your battery or seriously discharged it. Make sure it is fully charged and then have it load tested. These bikes have a weak stock battery size and they have to be in very good shape to fire. I went to a Scorpion Stinger LiFePo battery from Batterystuff.com. 387 CCA and now it pops right off. Charge it up and see.
Good luck, we all have lapses. Hopefully you'll get out of this one at minimal cost!

I did the same thing a couple of years ago to my 2012 S10. I mistakenly hooked up the new battery the same way the old battery came off. Unbeknownst to me, the poles were reversed on the new battery. I took it to a mechanic... cost a couple hundred to fix but was relieved I didn't do more damage. Nowadays, if I pick up a wrench, I'm looking to throw it at a dodgeballer.

I managed the same thing last month (doh!) putting a battery in facing outwards instead of sideways……. As others have found, this blows the electronic throttle valve fuse and main fuse. Replaced both and it’s been fine since, so you should be ok. Yamaha lists the main 50a fuse at £22.99 each but they’re £1.59 at Euro Car Parts (and if you buy 10 or more you can get them for well under £1 each!).

Crank it while holding the throttle full open
I let it sit over night, turned on the ignition, opened up the throttle completely and hit the starter button. After about 5- 7 seconds it caught and finally started. Let it warm up and have not had an issue since then. Thank you all for the good words of advice and assistance. We're going on a drive today!
