These were posted to the BMW MOA Facebook page 2013 GS..failed on the interstate rider was able (some how) to stop safely. Some speculation is the brake caliper came loose and tore the spokes out.

Look at the wear on the tire, has been pushed hard. Obviously BMW don't expect people to push the GS that hard on the way to Starbucks...

That is one lucky SOB. BMW will need to get him a new seat too... the clench marks will never come out.

Damn
I bet the dealer tells him "They all do that" ::025::

Glad he stopped safely. At least the final drive didn't blow up ??? :D

The only other response from the dealer is: "It's your fault."

I can't see how a caliper coming loose would do something like that. Looking at the caliper it's still in the right position on the disk. Even if the bolts came out, it would have to come off the disk to go into the wheel? Interested in the full story if and when it comes out.

Predicted comments..

The BMW engine is so Awesome that it literally rips the spokes out of your wheel.

BMW are so great. They repaired it no questions asked.

I'll buy a new one because I don't trust this one anymore what is the best prices GS you guys....

etc etc.

I'd say it' pretty rare though. I think the lightweight engineering probably requires all spokes to be attached with very little buffer.

Just to balance things up, I must add my bit about Tenere spokes.

I found a broken one the other day.

Ok that's it :D God knows how long it has been broken, I haven't been checking them too frequently because at 65,000 miles, they just don't get loose any more. Actually I think the last loose one I found was about 35,000 miles ago.

I just changed tires and found a ding in the rim, I think from hitting an unmarked speed bump too fast. Maybe it broke then...

Well, it's on BMW that images like that draw the funny & snarky comments.
But seriously, that's gotta be some bizarre scenario that resulted in that. Not sure it was a BMW thing.

Story? Anybody know? It's like a piece of rebar was thrown into a spinning wheel.

Perhaps he left his U-Lock on and then decided to impress his workmates with his bikes awesome acceleration as he went to leave.

Probably not, but would be pretty funny :D

Actually that wouldn't be too far fetched. I know a few people who have had U-Lock incidents over the years.
