Okay folks, Saturday night I am staying overnight with some friends at anson-wright. This will be a quick two day trip, and wanted to make it something a loop. Nothing too long, since I like to play along the way. I was thinking of heading out from Kennewick, down 395 to highway 36. East on 26, up 19 to spray. Then head up 207. Any recommendations on this route, or the best way to get home the next day?

Have never been to this area but it is now on my travel list. Here is what I came up with, http://g.co/maps/pyjk9 Hope this helps.

I could not find Hwy 36 but did find Hwy 30. Not sure if Hwy 26 and John Day Fossil Beds Nat'l Monument on your list of todo's but 402 looks like fun. This area has a bunch of gravel roads that look like they need to be ridden. Not sure what the NF roads are like but they complete some connections.

It was pretty close. I think I will head down 395 to 26, play a bit at the fossil beds, and head up 19 toward Spray. The canyon along 19 is supposed to be a fun ride, and pretty. From Spray, I'll head up 207 to the park. I think I might steal some of your route on the way home by coming down NF Road 22 to monument, and then over to 395 and head north (taking your detours).

Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to take a bunch of pictures. I've heard this is a fun area to ride.

Fred i did this route on my S10 late fall, its easily done in a day,if you stop in the fossil beds to look around you will need the extra day. Have fun and ride safe....... theres a lot of deer in that area.

That will be a fun trip, just remember that it can be pretty desolate in eastern oregon. I think you will have a blast.

Fred, do you get Friction Zone http://www.friction-zone.com ? They review at least one ride for each monthly issue. Not too long ago they reviewed there ride to and around Vale OR. I was originally going to include Boise and McCall but decided to use that time to enjoy some non A to B riding. NF-39 looks and sounds like a beautiful well traveled dirt road that can be a lot of fun. Guessing (partial Street View) NF-22 might be all asphalt though mostly single lane. Hopefully 207 is as good as it looks like. I will be back to see the rest of that area.

My ride through north central Oregon was a hoot. While not the most entertaining video out there, here is a link: http://youtu.be/liPtBbjkcGE, it shows some very nice scenery. Due to time constraints, the Route ended up being down 395 to 26, 26 to 19 and up over the mountains to Anson Wright Park. Day 2 was back down 19, 26 west to Mitchell, and 207 north to 19 (again), then up through Arlington and back. Great landscapes, and some fun time walking around the various fossil beds.

Lessons learned:

1. Be vague about "when you will get there." As soon as I started thinking about making the time, I stopped focusing on the Journey

2. Rest often. I'm finding I like to get off and play (silly geologist). Perhaps the miles per day metric is not for me.

3. People are very curious about this bike.

I'm still a total noob, but I love this bike more every time I ride it.

I ended up backtracking down 19, since NF-22 was majorly torn up with construction, and closed in places. 207 was rated at 55, but it seemed like the 20 mph twisties went on forever. Still, it has some killer views. 207 takes a bit longer than you would think, but is majorly worth it.

I will have to take a look at friction zone. Looks intriguing.

Thanks Fred.
- Is NF-22 passable? Bummer if not.
- 207 sounds as good as it looks.
