I am pretty sure that is the vent. If you plug that you will get oil leaks. Best thing to do is what BMW do, I know bear with me here, on the HP bikes and run a tube from there up high on the bike. That way it can vent without spilling fluid on rough washboard stuff.

But I wouldn't plug it up.

Nice find - this is the right way to fix it.

If you plug the hole, you will blow out the oil seal.
Ya, just ask BMW engineers why they eliminated the vent on the 1200 series FD... ::025:: and guess what, for 2011 or 2012 they've put the vent back on!!

The 1100/1150 FD is vented just like the FD on the S10 / FJR.

You would have to take off the cap, then tap a fitting into the hole into the top. I am not sure how the actual vent comes out of the differential, i do have one on order from the local dealer, under twenty dollars. I will see then how to install.
Could you just run the vent hose down from the diff.

I was wiping the bike down after a wet ride and twist the top of the vent, its spot welded to the lower tube. Its cad plated steel not aluminium with .0005 press fit into the housing.

Mine is now aluminium I was going to route a breather hose up under the seat but no matter which direction or material you use its subject to being ripped off.

The vent cap is the best option I am sure this one was kicked around the engineering Dept in Japan for awhile.
