Upon taking my tank off to have the recall done, air screw adjustment, and CO settings moved, I noticed the site glass clear tubing cap on the bottom of the air filter housing was filled to the rim with oil/fuel/water ish looking stuff. I removed it, and emptied, then wiped out this clear cap. Anyone heard of this, and what is it for?
I will try to get a pic soon for this!!!

It is a drain cap for the airfilter housing. An air filter housing always collects moisture as air is being sucked in and changes temperature, and it also collects oil as evaporating gasses from the engine re-breather is fead back into the airfiler.

16 is the drain cap
25 is the breather pipe leading from the engine into the airfilter housing

Emission regulations do not allow that (oily)air to be dumped directly into the open atmosfere. Therefore that air is being lead into the airfilter housing where it can be sucked into the engine and burnt.

What you find in that cap is residu. It is absolutely normal. That is why the cap is transparent, that way you see that it contains some residu and can be removed and drained.

It is not something you need to do frequently, just once every major mainternance period (25K miles or so), if at all.

A couple of days ago I did the same as you. A couple of weeks ago the service department told me the oil was there but did not correct it. I knew it was there as long ago as September when I sync'd the TBs the first time.

The causes could have been an oil overfill or tip over. My drain cap was barely full and yes had the looks of moisture and/or fuel mixed in the oil. There were a few speckles of oil on the inside base of the air box. I wiped the air box clean as you normally would, pulled the drain cap off and washed it clean using dish soap then re-installed it, and replaced the stock air cleaner with a new K&N filter.

I am not concerned though it is noted on my maintenance log.

I want to know about your CO setting and TB sync though maybe in a separate thread.

Yep same here.. a little oil in the airbox probably from a slight overfill.

Tomato, send me a pm, i will respond to you on the air screw and CO settings. They are listed here on the forum under maintenance.

Thanks for the info guys. I have always known there is oily residue in an aircleaner housing, it is just when you see a half of teaspooon in a clear cap, one begins to wonder.

I was wondering how your adjustments went and what differences you noticed. This time mine was a big improvement. I posted it in the "What did you do to your Tenere today" thread.

Mine is apparently full of something right now but I am not making a special effort to drain it. ;)

There are many Super Tenere's being reported to have the oil water fuel mix in the air box window. Doubtful it is rider created.

If you can see the air box window, grab and pull down to remove it. Wipe out the residue and slip it back on. Three minutes tops. No tools.
