I've only got 2500 miles on my XTZ so far, but it is fast becoming my "everything" bike. Which is what i intended for it to be.
I traded in my beloved ST1300 for the XTZ, I miss it bad. I miss the clean pocket of air I had behind that motorized windshield. But, I don't miss that 800 lbs of rolling mass!
It was a great touring bike, and a capable sport bike, despite it's weight. It was well farkled with heated grips and seat, plenty of storage, and tweaked suspension.
I own multiple bikes, and switch back and forth regularly. Two Buells, an old tuber, and a newer water cooled 1125. I had a DR650, but just traded it for a DRZ400.
I typically ride the XTZ on errands, and to work, and leave the sport riding to the Buells. But I have taken the XTZ on the same curvy roads that I tear up with the sport bikes, and aside from being so high, the Tenere handles the curves with ease. I think the tires are what's holding it back in this department. I've taken it up all the roads that I had previously taken the DR650 on, and it handled it all with ease.
The only gripes I have with the Tenere is the windscreen, and the engine noise. I am experimenting with different screens, doubt I can do anything about the noise.
I look forward to putting many miles on this bike, and my grin just keeps getting bigger.
