You do what you want to do and I will do what suits me. I have not felt the need to get my S10 flashed, therefore I haven’t done it. Jerky off throttle braking? Maybe you’ve been spanking hank a little too often ;) :)

I can see that you are anti-Chinese and maybe anti-German too for all I know, but show me a single manufacturer who doesn’t out-source any of their parts.
If you're going to post up asking for advice, don't get butthurt when you get it. ;)

I'm not anti-BMW, owned a number of them. Just against paying BMW prices for Chinese engines.

Get the beemer if if makes you happy, that's all that matters.

Ermm... not really my thing to be honest, maybe it’s something you have tried yourself? Still, if it works for you and doesn’t affect me, whatever you do in your own home is your business. Hey, maybe you and twinrider could get some mutual satisfaction together, you know what I mean? ;)
The Huawei and its spyware was just a joke .... Mine with BMW-QUANDT, is a morale problem. My father (farmer, and me too)was not a biker, but he was anti-bmw and anti-Bayer too. I never knew why, but probably they would have told him something at that time (my country was a great receiver of fugitives from the regime) .... I, when I was older, I began to read and yes ... I was understanding the way of thinking of my father ..... but time passes .... and things are forgotten. I can extrapolate what happened at that time, with what happens in my country today. A country full of corrupt politicians, who went from having nothing, to today being great construction / transport / oil / businessmen and great farmers. As it is what I have been able to see in the last 20 years, I understand what my father would have seen at that time of the post war. I know that maybe I look like a fool, I apologize for that
Edit: I know that this has nothing to do with the machines, but when I go to a Bmw agency to admire them, I feel opposite things inside me

Longdog, I guess looking at other bikes means you think the Tenere is a pile of turd. This upsets my sensitive side, so I’m off down the BMW dealers to kick a GS. ;)
No, I think the Super Tenere is a brilliant bike and, in my humble opinion, better than a GS in both quality and performance and I have either owned or ridden every version of the GS except the new R1250GS. I enjoy riding it and and I am filled with trepidation about changing it wondering if I will regret it. Having said that, my previous bike was one of the first versions on the Kawasaki Versys 1000 and I had that for 5 brilliant years and it was only the Super Tenere that led me to change it. So watch this space, maybe I will change or maybe I won’t. Sometimes the best bike you have ever had is the one you are riding now. For me, my Super Tenere is in my top 3 but it’s not No.1 Yet.

Anyways, sorry if I have upset your sensitive side, go to your local BMW stealership and kick a GS and while you’re there, kick a salesman too. At least you have a sense of humour unlike some people I could mention ;)

Speaking of 5G, and changing. . . . I received a letter from AT&T. They were advising me that my 3G phone would no longer be supported as of February 2022. Gives me time to find an affordable 5g flip phone.

Edit: I wasn't surprised that my 3G was going away, but the letter also advised 4G had the same termination date. That is going to inconvenience a whole lot of people.

Sometimes, you Gotta do, what you wanna do. Sometimes you have to go to Greener pastures to find out that the grass is actually dead and brown. LOL and who knows, maybe the greener grass, is much greener! :D

so I will say this about the S 10 since I am a relatively new owner...It defies logic, in my mind of course, that there are very, very few S 10’s on the road. I just don’t get it. My bike is not flashed, and I find the power superb. Yes, I came off a650 V Strom however, the S10 still has a ton of power considering it is “overweight”. I can’t imagine the difference once I get it flashed. The new Suzuki V Strom 1000 weighs almost as much as the S 10, yet it is critically approved and has good reviews.

What don’t I understand here?!

Longdog, do you what you want to do, you only live once, make it a good one!:)

Gives them time to actually get it working. 5G must be the most overhyped tech in years. Low band 5G isnt much better than 4G.

Well, in the end, in China they should also be paying German prices for their motorcycles:)

She doesn't have enough "pizazz". Look at the competition. With the exception of the Africa Twin, they all have "beaks". They all have flashier paint jobs. Some are faster, some are lighter, some have more tech goodies, and some have "the right image". Even on this forum, a lot of guys call her "boring". No pizazz. Which is perfect for me. 'Cuz, I don't have any pizazz either.

No pizazz here either. Because there are so few ST's out there, my gray dirty bike still gets a lot of looks. I think people are trying to figure out what it is, since it doesn't have the cylinders sticking out of the side....

Yeah, nobody knows what it is. Occasionally, they'll comment on the paint, but not much interest otherwise.

Do a little google search 'The silence of the Quandts'...... we all know the current administration of BMW had nothing to do with the 3rd Reich but there is some shady history there and it would make me think twice about buying a BMW or Varta battery.

There’s not really much to understand. The Super Tenere is a good bike, I’ve never actually seen it called boring on this forum, it’s just that some can see beyond it. Liking another bike and thinking other bikes are good or better, isn’t suggesting that the Super Tenere is a bad bike. Most bikes on the market are just different levels of excellence, rather than good or bad. Personal choice determines which product people buy, just some like to rubbish others choices, seemingly to feel better about their own choices.

some struggle to deal with bike mags not recognising the qualities of the Super Tenere and get defensive and hurt by it and rubbish the mag and the writers. I guess from this forum that the Super Tenere caught on far more in the US than in the UK, doesn’t make it a bad bike, doesn’t make it special either, because it’s rare.

brand loyalty and bike specific loyalty is nothing to me, don’t care if others like my bike or think it’s good or bad, my bike remains the same regardless of their views. I really don’t feel the need to drag others down to feel better about my choices.

I like most bikes, wouldn’t own most of them, but don’t need to drag them through the mud.

I honestly think my Super Tenere is a fantastic bike. It is not perfect by no means. No bike is. Some of the biggest drawbacks on the Super Tenere is the weight and the lack of a chain. These are also advantages when traveling on long stretches of highway.

I did a whole bunch of research and had a long test ride on a first generation model. Very first thing I noticed was how comfortable and stable it was. I honestly don't believe there are many bikes in this class that can peel off super comfortable 500+ mile days in the saddle. The second thing I noticed (due to my buddy owning one) was the reliability. I love wrenching and maintaining my machines. But I loathe doing unnecessary repairs or breaking down due to reliability issues.

There used to be the "elephant in the room" that was rarely mentioned or brought up in the motorcycling world until just a few years ago. That is cruise control, heated grips, and unified braking. Just those three features alone make any bike a safer, more comfortable machine.

A misconception is the Super Tenere is not a mass produced motorcycle like many others. It is Japanese, built in Japan using quality components under Yamaha highest standards and pride.
It is one of Yamahas flag ships and mostly put together by hand and a very limited amount yearly built. Thus making the Tenere one of the most reliable motorcycles on the planet.
While many other like BMW are subcontracting component and using assembly lines to make a profitable sale, Yamaha does not need the Super Tenere to remain a world leader in motorcycle sales.
The Tenere might not fit the needs of every one but it remains one of the worlds best ADV motorcycles available to date, take a trip around the world and it will take care of you.

Very true Lund, the Super Ten is underrated and understated. I started this thread because I had an itch that needed scratching. I was a little surprised at some people’s reactions, but most people understand where I was coming from. Since our lockdown has eased, I have had the opportunity to get out and ride a little more and the Super Ten is still a damn good bike, but I knew that already. It’s good but not perfect but what bike is? What I may do, is to buy a second bike just because I think that may be the best way forward for me. What’s the worst that can happen? Well I get to keep my Super Ten! ;) :)
