What do we now think of the bike

All the above talk about octane rating reminded me of this:- 2014 near Lake Titicaca. Fuel was not the problem.... air was. At 4654m (15,260ft) the air was only 56% of that at sea level. Bike was a bitch to start and being 2 up and loaded made hill climbs slow and in a low gear. Having said...

    I'm easily entertained

Thanks for the heads up. When I logged on there was a bunch of bikers riding by in the background. A double wammy :)

    ABS light

Sounds like I had the same problem as "Limey" above. Mine failed following a strip down after a long trip. Although I did not change or remove any brake parts, I did change the fluid. One day whilst out on a run I noticed my back brake pedal getting lower till eventually I had no back brake. I...

    ABS light

Came across this and noted the following anomally.... I have had to change my ABS pump following a failure. I have one of the earliest bikes, June 2010, and normally my ABS light went off after a few seconds with the other idiot lights. Since changing the ABS pump, the light now goes off only...

Who will be changing there chain tensioner to the 14' during valve adjustment ?

I have been thinking about the chain jumping problem having read ALL (sigh) of the above. With the problem of not knowing the position of the camshafts by just removing the clutch cover and therefore the likelihood of a cam wanting to jump some teeth. Looking at the photo copied from...

    Power loss after valve adjustment

I did that and trust me the bike will not run, it will cough and fart but not run. The only leads that fit each other are the TB servo and the spark plug ones. Unfortunately they come off the loom at the same place. I got mine mixed up and the bike just would not work.

    Rear brake failure.

I am now suffering the same problem (48k miles). I keep bleeding the rear and after a while it gets more and more spongy and eventually gives up. There is (obviously !) air in the system each time, so I rang Yamaha technical UK if it could be the ABS unit and they said emphatically NO. Even if...

High mileage valve adjustment - a good time to change the cam chain?

Thanks for the advice Eric but the chain is paid for and on its way so I am just going to fit it anyway. Retirement gives me lots of time to play and I quite like dabbling - I just wish I was good at it :-[ Hi Trevor, Iv'e been following you progress on FB. I am just a lot jelous. My bike is...

High mileage valve adjustment - a good time to change the cam chain?

My bike has 48k miles on it now and I did the (first !) valve check at 46k (all in spec). Now the problem (if that is the correct word) of the CCT has raised it's head I have decided to change it for the 14. On purchasing the parts, I asked my dealer (who is also a Yamaha dirt bike racer) if...

Go to their web site. They have stock maps for 2011 and 2014 models. [url=http://www.dynojet.co.uk/index.php/power-commander-v]http://www.dynojet.co.uk/index.php/power-commander-v

How to gain access to the Diagnostic Mode CO adjustment

Dunno why I just re-read this thread but something has just occurred to me. Having just stripped my bike down for a serious clean and service, one thing I had to do was disconnect a permanent earth just like in the photo above. On my Euro spec bike the earth lead is there just like the one...

    MCN new S10 write up

I shall be paying Simon a visit in the next couple of weeks to get my flash updated. He did a full tune up for me including a PCV last February. The bike was incredibly powerful but the extra power sacrificed smoothness so I had to dumb it down somewhat for my intended use (I disconnected the O2...

    MCN new S10 write up

Of course opinions are opinions. We all have them and most UK S10 riders are testament to the fact that we do not need a thumbs up from MCN. However, to my mind they are testing the wrong bike under the wrong conditions. Like testing a plumbing system with a multimeter. They have good reasons to...
