I really must not have nothing better to do today then read this forum, and in particular, this thread.... September blues I guess, don't feel like working to hard today 8) Anyhoo, my final post on this topic ;D I found this post under a different thread, but I think its another helpful tip...

Low Oil light? How low before it comes on?

Don't know, I say a lot of variables come into play (like usage, weather, riding style, etc) so long as you you check the bike over regularly, and in the case of oil keep it between the upper and lower marks on the inspection window. Also, I would say its time for this guy ;) ::021:: I try to...

Low Oil light? How low before it comes on?

What everyone else said, but I'd like to chime in with my two cents... ;D I recently did my second service on the old girl, and the oil light popped a day later... I think the Yam is quite sensitive to oil levels, which is not a bad thing. I was interested to learn what barkinglizard said...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

Hello again, I thought I should update you on this and although its been quite awhile since I first reported it. I discussed the problem with the mechanic and we agreed on the Helicoil fix and to monitor it after that. Because the holiday season (and to be honest the weather sucked for awhile)...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions. Some of them have gone completely over my head, but that's cool, I'm learning!!! Just a quick update, I visited my local motorcycle shop over the weekend, where the owner specialises in fixing bikes, not selling them. Plus I've been to him before...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

I'm a bit wary of my ability to do all this. But I'm not going to step away from a challenge either, so I will investigate... Can you just confirm what you mean by the whole assembly? And what's the pumpkin? sorry!

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

I have replayed this moment over and over in my head - and honestly cannot remember the bolt being difficult or "sticky" when replacing it. I was able to hand tighten it, then I gave it a couple of "pinches" before attaching the torque wrench and torquing it down. I loosened the bolt a tiny...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

Dalllara - thank you for taking the time to post all that. I've started the search for a replacement final drive casing but unfortunately the Super Tenere is not that common in Ireland - so I may have to import the part. If you see any lying around let me know! :) ::008::

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

Thanks Creggur, that's closure on that question. Unfortunately I cant see how Yamaha would ever step in now, even if it is warranty. Back to drawing board in terms of the repair approach!

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

To answer your question, no, there's no more to this story that what's shared above. But, I'm massively interested in your belief that the housing cannot/should not just crack. I think my bike is still in warranty, but anyway, can you or anyone else, explain the properties/nature of the final...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

I was afraid that would be the response (agreeing its a bit more serious)! But, there are still options - and I very much appreciate your suggestion below ::003:: Do you think a thread repair insert would adversely affect the drainage of the oil (I assume, there'd be a "lip" on the insert so...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

thanks lads for all the replies, much appreciated... I've quickly looked into the suggestions, helicoil and timecerts, and they look great options. However, I have a dreaded update to make to this experience, when a looked at the pictures I took of the drain bolt the cases, I noticed a tiny...

gear oil drain bolt - thread damage - help!

First time post, but long time forum reader - and I could do with some help, as I'm unsure to what extent I have damaged my bike :( First, a little background, I'd consider myself as a "novice mechanic" but "eager and reasonably capable around a bike" having had a variety of bikes over the...
