Re: valve adjust problem
You are correct AC, wasn't thinking, was just trying to get him back to top dead center, since he seemed to be going only 360 forward
Re: valve adjust problem
The k mark is on the fire cycle only when the t mark comes up 70 degrees clockwise rotation, so when those 2 show up on the crank you either turn the motor back to k or forward 650 degrees to k. Once on k the cam holes should line up. It's not that complicated
He set...
Re: valve adjust problem
You turn the engine clockwise to find the 2 marks which show you are on the fire cycle. You have to turn it counter clockwise to get back to k or go 2 revolutions forward back to K, if you turn it clockwise back to k just one rev you will be on the exhaust cycle and...
Re: valve adjust problem
yes, find the K mark and the T mark then turn counter clockwise back to k, that's where you see if the cams are correct not the other way around
Re: valve adjust problem
I had to find which way it turns, so you turn the engine clock wise to find the 2 marks, finding the second mark turn the engine counter clockwise back to the K mark, then the cam hole should line up with the cap
Re: valve adjust problem
From what you are saying you are 180 out, when the k mark lines up and you turn and find the T mark, you turn the engine back the 71 degrees, not forward to K mark at that point the holes should line up. If you turn the engine the same direction as when you went to the...
Re: valve adjust problem
Thanks Jaeger, it would be a good idea for anyone doing this in the future to mark the exhaust cam and bearing cap before taking apart, making alignment much easier to see
Re: valve adjust problem
Yes, you have to make sure you stay on the #1 firing mark, which is the where 2 fires at 70 degrees, then the holes have to line up
Re: valve adjust problem
Now check the alignment of the exhaust cam, there is a mark on the sprocket that should line up with the cylinder head surface
Re: valve adjust problem
Turn the motor back to where K lines up with egde, the cam bearing cap closest to the sprocket on the intake has a line on it, there is a small hole mark on the cam shaft, they should line up. No hole then the cam is 180 out
Re: valve adjust problem
Becoyote, just make sure your on number one fire, go to number 1 then 70 degrees to number 2 then turn the motor back the way you came to number 1. The intake cam has a hole on top that has to align with the cam bearing cap when on number 1. If there is no hole then...
Re: valve adjust problem
Again this motor was timed on the number 2 cylinder, it needs to be timed on the number 1 cylinder. He needs to pull the side cover make sure he is on the fire stroke turn it top dead center, take the valve cover off and take a pic and straight up and down of the cam...
