Not know what your back issues are who knows if the S10 is right for you but I do find it a very easy bike for slow speed or riding standing up. Standing helps me stretch my back and just be in another position on those 3-600 mile days.
Yamaha quality and shaft drive are big selling points for me.
Last warm day before winter rolls into the High Country of Eastern Plumas county Ca. Antelope lake and Black Mountain fire lookout. Using the Tenere as intended. A real nice 325 mile day of asphalt and gravel roads.

I just bought a 2018 Wing with DCT, overall I like it but slow speed maneuvers are a bit odd and at times a clutch lever would be nice. I really doubt I would like it for any off pavement use. Just my .02 worth.
