I think there might be several things to ponder with this.... The possible need for the lights, brand, and price..... I dont fault anyone for buying anything they want... Why do I care? And I dont care what he spent, could care less....................... But there are very good alternatives that produce the same if not more light for less money. I do ride around the country and a hand full of BDR's out in the super back woods. Im a BIG proponent of BRIGHT extra lights..... I will go so far as to say that all my Baja Designs lights have saved my life more than once in the middle of the night. Ive told the stories here on the forum several times. NOTHING beats being able to see out in the desert at 1 AM. In fact, when we road the AZBDR we had an issue in the mountains and I had to ride across a whole mountain ridge at 2 AM... Rough narrow roads, no guard rails, no safety, no anything... The lights were a blessing.....................
Im a die hard fan of Baja Designs and they have done me right SO many times, these guys are the best. Anyone that might like these types of lights can buy them second hand on FB market place or even E bay for less than retail. So IMOP, folks can buy very high quality lights and install them and not spend anywhere near that type of money if they chose not to or are on a budget.....
Once again, I dont give a flip what he spent on his lights, what is much more important (to me) is that he enjoys them and hopefully this person is able to use them and possible keep him out of harms way.... Might even save his life one day.... How do you put any price tag on that.......
( I have a friend that is frugal about everything. He and I sometimes chat about this type topic. I try and explain to him that the world is all "relative"..... If you see someone driving a Rolls Royce they might make 30 million a year, they dont care about a car that cost 500K. So IMOP, if someone spent 2500, I don't care, maybe that doesn't bother them at all, and what they have or don't have doesn't bother me in the very least, more power to them)
Where I choose to ride, Ive always saved up, and bought nice lights to 'brighten' my journey ! Have used them, and loved them a million times ! ! ! !
I will add that, some of these companies build special plug-N-play "lighting systems", and many folks do not have the skills to do install them other than a manual and plug-N-play system..... There is nothing wrong with this...... Except, when some folks have special German bikes that have this type of plug-N-play wiring, you then are 'forced' to buy this and plug it in..... And this has a retail price..... At this point it comes down to: do you want it ? Or do you not want it?.............. Those customers might feel they dont have another option other to pay...... In my case Im fortunate because I know how to install all of this type stuff 20 different ways and I would never buy a 'off the shelf kit' for a specific bike. I realize not everyone knows how to do this...........
I hope this rider enjoys his bike, and puts those new lights to some good use ! ! ! ! !
