That's weird. It was my understanding that they were virtually the same. Pfizer was claiming 96%, and Moderna 94%, initially. That could be why they're recommending not to mix manufacturers if/when you get a booster dose.
Yeah, that was "last week's news". Then politics got involved. Now they're backing off from "booster for everybody". Instead they're saying that they want to concentrate on getting everybody fully vaccinated first. My opinion is that, in the U.S., if you're not vaccinated by now . . . . you don't want it.In the uk we’re finding that immunity is starting to weaken so we’re embarking on a booster for over 50s along with the flu vax
In a mad world, even the mad are sane. This is something like #5 of these radio personalities in only the last 6 weeks. Anti-vax, making fun of AIDS victims, . . .
Karma's both a bitch and a real thing. I wonder how many died because of his poisonous lies to keep his show ratings up.
Announcer Phil Valentine went from anti-vax to telling people to get the shot when he was dying. While I doubt it, maybe their deaths can save some of their followers by getting vaccinated.
Wow! 70% of your workers are un vaxxed? That is a shocker. What industry is this?I just read the new guidance that came out from the "Safer Workforce Task Force" yesterday that will require all federal government (US) contractors and subcontractors to be vaccinated by 08 Dec 2021. This is going to likely cause 70% of my workforce to seek other employment . I am a facility maintenance manager. It will be completely debilitating. Do not read this as either pro or anti vax. Just stating a fact.
A nurse at out local hospital has an auto-immune issue which precludes her from getting the shot. Shots are mandated here for healthcare workers, she is going to lose her career (and her livelihood) that she has worked at for over a decade. She has been a front line Covid worker, using PPE, for the past year and a half without catching the virus. A year ago you were calling her a hero, now she's "part of the problem"?My dr told me everybody at our local hospital with rona is unvacinated. I ask three nurses if they were vaccinated. Got a no and a big long bs excuse. I told one smart ass she was part of the problem. Hope she's never my nurse. Might get some Special treatment. They need to mandate everyone of them to get the vacc. I still don't see ho they cannot want the vacc when they are watching people die miserably. They have the same mentality as some Harley boys I know.

Me not knowing her auto-immune issue will keep me from disputing her. But, right now, around here, those with auto-immune issues are the only ones that are "authorized" to get their third shot. Like Tenman, I've noticed a lot of hypocrisy with healthcare workers. Telling people to get vaccinated, but not doing so themselves. I don't understand the logic. And, if getting vaccinated guaranteed me from getting the virus, I wouldn't care if other people did, or didn't. But, the unvaccinated are still a threat . . . . just a reduced one.A nurse at out local hospital has an auto-immune issue which precludes her from getting the shot. . . .
I understand your point but there are some very good arguments and examples for Government Policy in the market place. In this instance, no one is being required to get vaccinated but they are being limited in their options if they do not. My concern is until vaccination reaches the point of stopping the spread of Covid we are providing it opportunities to mutate into something nastier that can beat the current vaccines. then we get to start all over again. This^
I'm vaxed but pro choice (Darwin will sort them out).
Healthcare facilities all over the country in states that have mandated the vaccine for healthcare workers are already shutting down facilities, stopping admissions, cancelling elective procedures, etc. Keep in mind: In addition to DR's and nurses, "healthcare workers" are also the maintenance staff, the housekeeping staff, the laundry staff, the food service staff, etc. These are minimum wage workers that can easily tell the hospitals to "get *ucked" with their mandates and go get a job at the local pizza joint. Meanwhile thousands will suffer because of reduced healthcare capacity. Actions have consequences....there needs to be options (regular testing, PPE, etc.) other than "get vaxed because we say so or lose your job".
These are skilled workers. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry. With the employee shortage right now this will shut me down. I've had a posting up since May for a plumber, 4 (bad) applications. That's all.Wow! 70% of your workers are un vaxxed? That is a shocker. What industry is this?
I'm a cranky selfish old bastard...so MY personal freedom trumps everybody else's. (I'll go eat a Snickers now....)So, whose personal freedom is more important than others?
Agreed: policy vs mandate.I understand your point but there are some very good arguments and examples for Government Policy in the market place. In this instance, no one is being required to get vaccinated but they are being limited in their options if they do not. It is my sincere hope that we will see an improvement in the wages paid for those "staff" jobs to cover any perceived risk.
As regards my comment about Government Policy in the market place. I can cite some good examples but the easiest one to see the point with would be to ask "Is the Cuyahoga still burning?" Look the question over and consider all the "whys" and evolving arguments applied over the decades and where they are now
My over inflated 2 cents

Having a daughter with an auto-immune problem, I feel for the nurse and would hope that her employer accommodate a real medical issue, as opposed to all the people simply claiming one. My daughter's employer's been good about it.Regarding healthcare workers that CAN'T get vaccinated due to legitimate physiological reasons....you feel they should be fired as opposed to alternative options being offered?
If you believe in US law, then that's not true. In the 1905 ruling of Jacobsen vs Massachussetts, the Supreme Court already ruled that your freedom ends when deciding not to be vaccinated curtails the rights of others.I'm a cranky selfish old bastard...so MY personal freedom trumps everybody else's. (I'll go eat a Snickers now....)
My two cents agree. Stop it now, and we won't have to worry later.. . . . My concern is until vaccination reaches the point of stopping the spread of Covid we are providing it opportunities to mutate into something nastier that can beat the current vaccines. then we get to start all over again. . . .
The guy that built my shop, and the guy that wired my shop, both said the same thing. Can't find anybody that wants to work. And, that was pre-virus.. . . . I've had a posting up since May for a plumber, 4 (bad) applications. That's all.
If I understand correctly, most other "ailments" don't have the incubation period of covid. (which actually is a form of SARS, which in turn allowed the vaccination to be developed so "quickly"). Covid has that time before you show symptoms that you're spreading it everywhere. You infect two friends, who infect two friends . . . . break the chain, and slow/stop the spread.. . . . We can only strive to provide widespread resistance to the virus with the current vaccines and learn to live with this going forward (just like we live with the flu, SARS, Ebola, meningitis, dengue fever, etc.)
I guess that answers my question.. . . . If you believe in US law, then that's not true. In the 1905 ruling of Jacobsen vs Massachussetts, the Supreme Court already ruled that your freedom ends when deciding not to be vaccinated curtails the rights of others. . . .
Absolutely not. But, if they have a reason where they're a danger to themselves or others, they have to be willing to accept a position elsewhere in the company. See above Supreme Court ruling.. . . . Regarding healthcare workers that CAN'T get vaccinated due to legitimate physiological reasons....you feel they should be fired as opposed to alternative options being offered?
