Good man! I have had 2 x Pfizer vacs as has the wife.An hour ago I got my second Pfizer, happy man! The wife’s up next week for the second. It gives a good feeling doing my part for group immunization. Now the last ones have to be convinced..
Hey Ric,Here in southern Ontario Canada, the only problem we have now is outbreaks in areas where there are a lot of unvaccinated people. When the borders open up it's going to be a gong show.
No. I haven't heard of any serious problems with the Mennonites and I'm near St Jacobs. The outbreaks in the Grey Bruce region came from young people from Six Nations. And the GTA is still dealing with high numbers from Brampton Mississauga.Hey Ric,
By chance are U referring to the Amish and Mennonite communities?

Agree. I'm pretty libertarian in my thinking in that folks should individually be free to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't infringe on the freedoms of others. In the case of vaccines for transmissible diseases though,, my social responsibility conscience is triggered a bit, as I don't believe this decision solely affects just me, and I too feel compelled to do my part.An hour ago I got my second Pfizer, happy man! The wife’s up next week for the second. It gives a good feeling doing my part for group immunization. Now the last ones have to be convinced..
I think this is an over simplification of the issue. There are a lot of moving parts to why people aren't getting vaccinated. They range from plain ignorance to hyper cautiousness, and everything in between. It truly amazes me there are people out there who think they know more than science....
Medical information is protected by HIPAA. Seems he could get the vaccinations on his own time and chances are have mild enough symptoms to not miss any work. Worst case he calls in sick for a day or two, I don't think any employer can force him to disclose that he got a vaccine or exactly what he had that he called in sick for. Then there are the folks like my son who want to get the vaccine but can't afford to get it because his company's policy is that he can't work for 10 days after each dose if there are any symptoms,
Agreed. Sadly so is the level of scientific literacy in the general public, which is what provides an avenue for propagation of this misinformation...The misinformation out there is staggering.
Well written thanksI think this is an over simplification of the issue. There are a lot of moving parts to why people aren't getting vaccinated. They range from plain ignorance to hyper cautiousness, and everything in between.
When I got my first Pfizer dose I had a minor reaction. My second dose put me down for 2 days of misery. I had Covid in the early days of the pandemic and the symptoms and duration were the same as with the second dose... stuff happens. I don't regret getting the vaccine but several friends don't see the point based on my experience. If you're going to get sick with the same severity and duration, why bother?.. or so the thinking goes. Faulty logic as it is, that's one of many reasons why people aren't getting it. No amount of me saying that I am a one in a million case is going to change anything. Neither my wife nor daughter had anything worse than a headache. Doesn't matter. My experience is enough to make some people hyper cautious.
Then there are the folks like my son who want to get the vaccine but can't afford to get it because his company's policy is that he can't work for 10 days after each dose if there are any symptoms, which means there is a possibility of not being able to work for a month. Yes, he can go out on benefits (and I'm pretty sure that his company's policy could be challenged in court) but the amount he would get paid is half of his current income. This is more common than you would imagine in the service industry.
Then, of course, there are just paranoid conspiracy theorists. Not much you can do about them.
