My Venture has a removable cap under a locking cover. Never lost it yet!If the bike came with a removable gas cap. People would gripe about loosing them.
Haha, nah.... Thats the stuff young guys do. Owned too many bikes with removable caps. My other Harleys have regular gas caps. Havent lost one yet.If the bike came with a removable gas cap. People would gripe about loosing them.
Me too!! The OEM cap is the best for my application. OTOH I can see where an aftermarket one would be better for a faster fill and go.I guess I'm old fashioned. I like my gas cap exactly like it is. I would even like my Jeep's cap to be the same.
How do you remove the flap over the key ?Like Patrickg450 I cut down a key, (not an oem one), except that I also removed the flap and put a small plastic knob from the hardware store, (Ace or Home Depot carry them), so that I just left it in the cap. It's too short to work in the ignition. You then always have a keyless gas cap and if you don't want it, you just pull the key out. You can easily re-install the flap again if you wanted to later. It's not a permanent mod. The knob has a set screw and sits flush into the lock. Most don't even notice it. No more pulling the key from the ignition at gas stops.

Remove the cap, (there is one bolt on the inside of the ring), then drift out the small pin that the flap pivots on. A very small spring and ball will also come out then, so do it over a rag or towel and keep track of those for later use.How do you remove the flap over the key ?
LOL, my user name on ADV is 'Dirtybike'.Eric, love that your tank is filthy.

I live a boring life....high speed fill-ups just aren't that high on my needs list.….I can see where an aftermarket one would be better for a faster fill and go.
I'm in!

Edit - You do have to disassemble the cap further from the back side to allow access to the flap pivot pin. It's pretty self explanatory when you start pulling it apart and simple to put back together.
