Okay, this is my second time down this road. Last time it happened, I locktited and lubed everything. Somehow the blue locktite on the right side case didn't hold the lock together. So last night I tried to remove the key from the lock and the entire core came out. No matter what Dallara says, these locks are the cheapest shit I've ever encountered ::010:: I have never had a lock core come out of any other lock in 53 years of turning keys. Never. Sometimes a lock will corrode and get stiff but the core doesn't fall out rendering the thing un-useable.
I have read thru the thousands of ... wait... make that MILLIONS of posts here about how fiddly and finicky the locks are. Then some fanboy jumps in and says it must be user error. There should be NO fiddling... it's a f*cking LOCK for chrissakes. We love the bike so we defend something that's indefensible!
Going to the garage with a bourbon and a hammer to try and get into the very expensive, useless side case...
RANT OVER.
I share your frustration. Yamaha builds great bikes, but it ends there, because the shitty bags or panniers are made cheapo by another manufacturer.
One of my panniers arrived damaged prior to being placed onto the bike. Dealer replacement..
When I arrived home on delivery day the first thing I did was to remove these crappy bags or boxes and store them in the basement.
I use soft bags and they function very well for me.
Yamaha has to either make their junk bags optional or provide better quality panniers to match the quality of the bike.
