Passenger Handle

Hello,

I have the Yamaha passenger handles and I bought some suitcases with Bumot support a short time ago.
My passenger complained of the little room she had to hold the handles, and that it was even painful.
And indeed, I noticed that the space between the handle and the luggage is quite small, and that the hand thus comes to "wedge" between.

The fault has too low handles or too high suitcases.

I would like to find a way to raise the passenger handles. Do you know if there is such a solution? Unfortunately, I didn’t find it.

Thanks

How handy are you? I can envision a spacer plate that would allow the handles to be raised, but it's something you'd have to make yourself out of aluminum plate.

This is a very rough sketch of what I had in mind. I see it being made from something like 3/16" aluminum plate. The height of the handles would depend on how long the upright portions of the bracket were made. The U shape allows the bracket to clear those plastic loops that are molded into the sides of the seat base.

You could experiment with the shape of the brackets by cutting prototypes out of 1/4" plywood until you find just the right shape and height of the bracket for your passenger.

You may find it easier to simply add some spacers to the pannier racks. You may need longer bolts, but it's a common size and pitch. Take one side loose, go to the hardware store and find spacers and longer bolts, repeat for the other side. They are not the same in most cases, side to side.

In the US I would go to a farm store for the spacers. It's a common generic item sold in a variety of diameters and lengths.

I do not know if I will be able to space the racks because on the Bumot suitcases there is a metal bar that connects the two supports on each side to stiffen the whole.
I could try to find or make a metal bar to replace it, but it would make me wider.

I admit that I would leave more on the option of raising the passenger handles.

I’m not a handyman on this kind of thing but maybe there is a possibility to use a welder or flour a 3D model to make either the handles.

I believe handles are required by law when carrying a passenger, hard to believe there actually are passengers that don’t use the handles

The base model didn't used to get a center stand in the EU either. Weird pricing/option tactics, I guess.

@Julien - Yes, you'll be a little bit wider. I've done this with Touratech Zega Pro bags. Depending on how much you space the top out, you may only need to slot the mounting points on the cross bar at the bottom. A longer cross bar would be a simple thing to make too, as opposed to making the adapters to raise the grab handles. All you need for the cross bar is a strait piece of square tubing and some new bolts.

Sorry I can't swing by and show you how it's done.
