Ok, it may seem a stupid question but my new (used) s10 has arrived and I'm not sure how the panniers operate, not helped by the locks being a little stiff (oil applied) and I don't want to force the key.
So, please could some one explain key operation and the red latch operation ?

Appreciated!

They are a bit fun.

First. to open put a little pressure downward on the lid as you turn the key.
to close lightly push down as you turn the key back.
Note: I have found it helpful to turn the key just past neutral and back to straight again. This helps to insure it locked. Always double check

second.
to install turn the key to attach. the red lever opens up. on the other side the red slider comes out and need to be turned. install on rack. turn and push the slider back in. hold in and then push the lever back in. then return key to neutral position.
to remove do the opposite.
Note: the key cannot be removed or replaced with the red not in place.

Also... when you turn the key to the "unattach" mode and the red handle pops out on the front of the box, be VERY careful which way you twist the front handle and how hard you twist it. You can turn it the wrong way and you can do that hard enough to do some damage. Don't ask me how I know! :(

Did Yamaha outsource that design to Touratech? Sounds complex and fiddly when explained. I'm sure its easier in practice, but dang...lol

After you do it a couple times it is pretty simple. Does seem odd at first though.

Also, take care the lower attachment, or foot, under the box is properly seated before you lock everything up.
