FWIW, if you just need a side stand, the Gen I stands fit the Gen II bikes and Vise Versa. Never had a problem with my Gen I side stand in 100k miles.

I would think the best bet is to find someone that has switched to an adjustable one and might still have the old one. Because you're right, don't hear of them failing.

Good luck with that. If I lowered a bike and got the adjustable side stand, I'd be keeping the original and links to put it back to stock for the next buyer. The market for lowered bikes is always smaller than stock ones.

I wasn't satisfied with the Gen 1 kickstand until I put a foot pad enlarger on it. That was all it needed to be very solid on the ground.

I do that to every bike. Even my 150 scooter has one. Because I like to just go places and it's not uncommon to be off pavement and want to get off for a picture. Side stand foot is a easy mod. Even on 'street' bikes like my FJR, gravel parking lot or fresh asphalt and a hot day? No problem with a side stand foot. No silly pucks, cans or boards to deal with, no string to my bars to pull something up. Just easy and effective.
