I recognize all this talk about price/value of the T7 from before it hit the street here in Europe.
Back then a lot of people considered it over priced considering the engine size, relatively low spec and simplicity of the bike.

When it finally arrived and people got the opportunity to do test rides things changed.

It turned out that Yamaha hadn't been lying when proclaiming that this bike would set a new standard for middleweight adventure bikes.
It's a true off tarmac travel bike for the solo rider.
It punches well above its weight, and perform better than it has any right to do when looking at the specs.

The T7 appeals to a very wide variety of riders, but most are in one of the following two categories:
1. Young/new riders who upgrade from smaller bikes.
2. Older experienced riders who downsize from +1000 cc adventure bikes.
- I get the impression that the majority is from the 2nd group.

I’m fine with the $12,000 Canadian.
sat on one a couple of weeks ago and put down the early deposit. I’ll be ether trading or selling the 790R when the T7 arrives in late May early June.

For me, I see it as an upgraded competitor bike to my DR650. Clearly it's worth more than the DR, but 50% more makes it uninteresting. If I were in the market to upgrade, that price would most likely inspire me to look at a smaller displacement, higher performance European bikes, even if it cost a little more.

Doesn't work for me, but I do wish them well.

To many electronic, reliability and the KTM requires premium fuel. If you follow the 790 facebook page there have been a few problems with clutches going, rear shocks and other small problems with the electronics.

According to Colorado Moto Service in his rental fleet the electronic issue definitely exist in the KTMs and the BMWs are more bullet proof. He is excited about the new T7 and has 3 on order for id fleet.

Should cost $8k USD. It's a KLR650 with ABS. ABS should be mandatory in the first place. It needs to prove itself reliability before asking above $8k USD. One can get a used KLR 650 with proven reliability, toughness and one jug (sparkplug, etc.) to worry about for much less than half....Can get a VStrom 650 pretty darn cheap on the used market and they are proven...

That motor has been proven for years and it has very little electronics compared to the bikes it's up against. Bike is priced where it should be in the market. The Strom nor any other adv. from Japan can hold a candle to this off-road and that's who is buying this bike.

I think is at least $1k too high. I was over in Copenhagen a couple weeks ago and went to the local dealer just to check it out. Too much weight up high, too soft of suspension, too much weight to lift. And that was just in the showroom. Great looking bike though.
They took a street bike motor and did just what Moto Guzzi is doing. I then went over to a KTM dealer in Löddeköpinge Sweden and check out there bikes.
I think the 790 is ugly as what ever comes to mind, that low tank will make KTM lots of money but for $2.5k more, I would take the KTM if long distance touring was involved.

What would improve the chain adjuster set up? It looks simple, effective, and is widely used across the motorcycle brands. My 690 Enduro R and Versys-X 300 have the same chain adjusters.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. I prefer that to the Strom ones and the older eccentric style.
