YES WARRANTY Purchase, renewal, questions

Debating buying the 3 year extension to the extended warranty, Yamaha quoted me $495 but said a lot of dealers can beat that. Bike is a '13 with 60k miles, most of that pulling a sidecar, and needed just regular maintenance and tires. I ride about 12k miles a year and was planning on buying the extension, and then came Coronavirus. Being near 70 with a couple of those "chronic conditions", I don't take any chances so my riding's been cut way back, and with most all the rallies cancelled there ain't as many places to ride to anyways. And if I ever needed the warranty, will the Yamaha dealers be in any shape to repair the bike. Nearest dealer to me has hundreds of side by sides and boats, but only 9 bikes left in stock. Next dealer 65 miles away is showing a bit more signs of life, but motorcycles are a declining part of their business too. So I've a suspicion that any repair claim will start with them blaming the sidecar, then take forever for them to get parts and figure out how to fix an S10 they probably have never seen the insides of before. Then there's the issue of disease control- the average towing company and bike dealer is in COVID-19 denial, so fat chance the responding tow truck driver and dealer service personnel will be wearing face masks, etc..

So I get the feeling I may as well save my money, do the best maintenance I can, take a cab (we've got a local cab company that requires masks for drivers and passengers) and/or the bus home if the bike breaks down on the road, and use my trailer to haul my bike home myself. Any opinions?

Jealous of all who can have the YES warranty. I picked up my 2013 with 5600 miles back in February and would love to have that peace of mind. Average of $100/year is insanely low for what it covers. As another said, at least it's a Yamaha.

The coverage is excellent, but will there be any dealers left to provide warranty service? I live in rural southwest Minnesota and the dealers that are left are pretty much out of the motorcycle business. I'm tempted to spend the money instead on fixing the bikes few bugs like the cam chain tensioner and clutch hub. Then there's the problem of just buying the warranty- D&H's phone has been busy the last couple hours.

That $389 spread over the 4 years is pretty cheap insurance. Even a very minor repair would certainly cost you more than that at dealer labor and parts prices. I have the 4 year YES warranty on my S10 and recently bought one for my F150 and my wife's Subaru. These late model vehicles are very complicated and expensive to repair.
My 2013 S10 is the first bike I've owned with ABS brakes, 2 drive modes and traction control and after looking up the prices on some of the components involved, buying the YES made sense to me. My coverage is up later this week and I'll be contacting Renaa at D&H to extend it another 2 years. Same situation with my cars/trucks - every one has had an extended warranty and each has had at least 1 claim involving repairs that greatly exceeded the cost of the coverage.

When the YES expired Dec'19 on my 2013 I was told an extension was not available.

When did you purchase your bike?

My 2013 was purchased new in 2015 and I added the 4 year YES coverage. I called Yamaha this morning (866-937-3983) and they verified I could purchase up to 2 more years of coverage.

@GearheadGrrrl - I think that Yamaha dealers will be around. Most of the things that might fail are not rocket science to repair. I've had really good service from a Yamaha dealer that really sold ATVs and snow machines with only 4 bikes on the floor in CO. They were plenty knowledgeable with good skills and access to all the info they needed to do the work. And it's all about how the dealer writes up the claim, in terms of getting it quickly approved. Sometimes the regional rep will play a part, other times not. When I had the chance to add two more years to my '12 warranty at over 100k on the bike, I jumped on it. When I ended up moving to a Gen II and selling the Gen I, that extra YES made a nice bonus for the buyer.

CCT and Clutch hub are worth it. My CCT failed at 83k. Get it done. Really, if you think about what might fail, the big, ugly, super expensive part with out any good used parts around is the ABS valve block. That cost will easily make you wish you had bought the extra YES. Sure, we aren't getting out as much. I hear you. My wife is high risk and she's not grooving on hotel stays so much right now or eating out, but we still get some day rides in and I've put 5.5k on in the last 3 months. A little tougher in Winter where you live. Hope for the best and plan for the worst. :) And keep trying D&H, they make it so darn easy.

I called Yamaha Corp a month or two before YES expired. I was on the fence anyway so just dropped it after that and didn't call D&H (where I purchased my YES).

I bought my used 2013 last February (2020), but it only had 5600 miles on it. Is there any way to find out when it was initially sold and if it might therefore be eligible. For all I know, it may still have some YES warranty on it, you don't get that much info from non-brand dealers. Wonder if there is any way to confirm that, too.

Since your in Austin, call woods on breaker. The rear end on my 19 was leaking and I took it into them and I think he ran the plate and immediately said oh yeah you got a lot left on your warranty. Whatever it was he knew immediately so call him with the info on your bike and maybe they can/will run it for you.

On the bright side, you have it. In about 4 years or so Yamaha will send you a postcard offering you another 2 years for a ok price. Then call D&H and they will verify, then offer it to you at a better price. :)
I thought my 4 year YES coverage was up on the 18th but it's on the 11th - 3 days from now! I called D&H 8x today and was never able to get through. Will be trying again tomorrow.

Has anyone renewed/extended their original YES plan through D&H lately and if so, is their pricing less expensive than what Yamaha is offering directly for the 1 and 2 year renewal?

Call Yamaha direct; Customer Service 800-962-7926 They will be able to tell you when the bike was sold and if it ever had YES, when it expires(d), etc. They are usually very helpful. You'll need your VIN handy. I called them before I bought my '15 used to find out if it was still under warranty or not. That it was still under the original 12 month warranty and eligible for YES was a major deciding factor for me at the time.

@Kurgan - D&H always beats the Yamaha published price, that's why they only do the deal over the phone. Hit up your local dealer and see what they can do. If they are willing to go less than the number on the postcard, that's decent. I think my postcard was $280ish and it was $260ish from D&H. Not as good a break as the original 4 year YES, but still good enough to pull the trigger, (for me).

I am on the other end of the spectrum when it comes to extended warranties. Never buy them, since between all the stuff I buy it would be a lot and not that much breaks (fortunately).
Like anxiously agonizing for 2 weeks after my last lunch with riding buddies if any of us will get COVID, I was wondering for 5 years if I should have purchased YES when I bought my ES in 2014. 6 years and 40,000 miles later I know it would have been a waste.

Yes for most folks the extended warranty winds up being wasted money. But for a high mile rider the extended warranty can be great !

NEWS ABOUT D&H YAMAHA: Renaa and the staff are GONE. The dealership has been sold and the new owners are in transition.

I explained to whomever answered the phone (after 17 calls between yesterday and today) why so many Yamaha owners from all over the US would call there and purchase their YES plans. At this point of the ownership transition they can't access the YES system to do anything, maybe in another week or so. I was told to just check with my local dealers and see what's what for renewal prices.

So tomorrow will be a busy day calling around to see if any dealers local to me are interested in beating the YES direct pricing for a 2 year extension (I was quoted $594 on the phone - never received a post card).

If you're calling around, you might try Yamaha of Harrison in Harrison, AR https://www.yamahaofharrison.com/ I have had very good experience with them for service work and they are a small, but very well run dealer. Charged me just under $400 for a valve check service. I rode 350 miles to have service done there because all the yahoos in my neck of the woods just wait for things to break before doing anything and were quoting me close to $1k for a valve service because they had never done one. Dealers here flat refuse to do valve check/adjustments unless the bike is running like crap. But that's another story.

other than buying my extended warranty over the phone through Renaa I have never actually done any other business there but I definitely was looking forward to the chance of stopping in there someday to check the place out, Renaa definitely seemed to know the business very well ! Hopefully the new owners will do well.

Eric that was for just a valve check? Did you get a quoted price if adjustments were needed?

Would have been $50 - $70 more if re-shimming was needed. They not only wrote the actual measurements for each valve on the work order, they also put it in the Yamaha system to be referenced by any tech later. Hourly rate was $70/he at the time.

I have a couple questions
I went to a Yamaha dealer in Punta Gorda FL to find out the options and prices I may get if I buy the YES warranty
I have been quoted for 594 for 2 years and the sales guy said that I am not able to get 48 months because the bike is not new ("Yamaha says") he said to me (Oh I forgot: He asked how many cc is the ST? Really, and you sell Yamahas?)
My bike is a 19' and I have the oem warranty until May 2021
Is that correct, no 48 months available if not new?
Can I get a better deal somewhere else ?
I appreciate your thoughts on this
Thanks a lot
Happy safe 2021!!
