Cycledude: Not many get stolen right around here, but I gathered that they (USAA) are starting to push some kind of immobilizer system for touring and ADV bikes that are likely to be traveling far and wide, and potentially into areas where the theft rate is high. They are offering a discount if I put one on my Tenere.

If you have the dealer checking the spokes, maybe ask hopefully for next to nothing, they could zip tie the spokes for you. Or when you get it, easy job, and if they were to ever loosen, you will not loose the spoke.

Hmmmmm. That's something that I know nothing about. Will have to do some searching on this to see what you're talking about.... Are there some pics available that show what to do? I have LOTS and LOTS of zip ties of every imaginable size.

My insurance wanted to know if I had an anti-theft device installed. I told them yes, it's called a manual transmission. She disagreed, but did admit that she wouldn't be able to steal it, even if I left the key in it.

Not the best picture, but you should get the idea. The zip ties are not tight, they are just a little loose. If they were tight, it would not allow the spokes to move like they do. With this, if a spoke loosen up, it will not flop around hitting stuff, and you will not loose it.

Congrats on your new ride.

Yep, I've already got the dealer lined up to check the spokes today. And there's a really good mechanic here in town that was a Yamaha mechanic for 16 years (just found out yesterday) that can do them for me in the future. He stressed how important that is, and also how important it is to not over-tighten the spokes. Said the wheel ribs can be easily ruined by overzealous tightening and not using proper torque specs.
Sounds like you have found one of the few mechanics who have a clue how to check the spokes on the S10 properly.

Congratulations! A great year and View attachment 58490the right color! Skid plate and crashbars and then lots of other stuff for me. Have fun!
I see you have the OEM engine crash guard. Mine came with that too and I’ve been search for a radiator crash guard that would adapt around or with the OEM guard.

Could you tell me what brand that is, and/or where to find it? I hate that my radiator is so exposed, not that I will bye don’t to drop her, but $tuff happens and can cost a ton of coin to fix without said protection.

Thanks in advance.

I have USAA on my cars and house but the cycle insurance is pushed through Progressive. I’ve never had them ask that , but I do all my policy changes online. I guess I’ll find out soon as I will be putting insurance on the ST before it gets picked up by HaulBikes. Interested in what sort of system are they suggesting??

I bought these from another owner. The oem crashbars and these came as a unit. And yes, they do protect the radiator.

Well guys, I got my spotless '16 ES with 7500 miles on it home to Missouri from Pennsylvania on Sunday morning at 4am. Waynesburg Yamaha in Waynesburg, PA was terrific to work with Saturday morning. They had it all serviced (including spoke torque) and shined and waiting on me when we got there, and we were in and out of there in about an hour.

I absolutely LOVE the bike. A sluggish throttle is the last thing to worry about on this bike. In fact, even in tour mode it's quite twitchy. I'm having to get used to it, and the engine braking is lots more than I've been used to, but I'm learning it's habits quickly. For now, I don't think I'm going to mess with the ECU.

Have any of you ever put a G2 Throttle Tamer on an S10? Their ads make it look like a sound approach to taking some of the twitch out of it.

I've only put about 250 miles on it so far, so I haven't riden it nearly enough to develop muscle memory for it, and to become used to the fuel injection vs. the carburetors on my old Concours.

I've got a boatload of farkles on order for it and am looking forward to making it MINE.

P.S.: Banderboy, I checked the tire pressure. Front was right on the money, but back only had about 18 psi in it. Thanks for the advice!
