Interesting. My Touratech bracket obscures the wind deflector's front mounting holes in either position. For now I'm unable to use the bracket.
I can't really tell without more pics, but it looks like you need to use the OEM shield brackets top hole. I don't think you are doing that.
Tell me I'm crazy, but you may want to take another look at the directions.

I think you're right, Jim. I think I must have missed that because I wouldn't want to raise the windshield another 1.6". CalSci L is already too high!

I think you only have a few options if the L CalSci is too high. You could sell the shield and take a small hit, or you could cut the shield down to exactly where you want it.. And the third option may be to drill holes higher on the shield and lower it. You may have to trim the bottom, but that may be easier than the top.
Good Luck,,

I got them because they're only $70 or so. I've yet to go on a long ride to see how they fair, but others have sworn by them.

I'm gonna treat myself to a set of deflectors ... mainly to stop the swirling spray when it's raining. I don't care about buffeting and stuff ... I ride naked bikes all the time.

My other bike is a naked bike (Honda 919), and has always been fine. No buffeting. Full air flow over a helmet is noisy and/or cold, but otherwise fine. The S10 without a windscreen would be the same.

Buffeting from an improperly adjusted wind screen is different. It rattles your helmet to where you're afraid your brain is going to liquefy and turn you into a vegetable. Your vision is blurred by vibration so much that it's hard to see. If you set out on a long trip with the wrong windscreen you'll end up having to abort or toss out the windscreen.

Call them and ask if they will exchange the L windshield for a M windshield. If so, they are not that far away for a fun ride. We could meet you and take you to Berryessa for a fun ride and Calistoga for a bite to eat.

Thanks. I would try that except I didn't buy directly from CalSci. I might try to cut it down or have it cut down, but the plain round shape isn't great to begin with, and it wore the paint off where it rubbed against the black headlight trim. For now I'm back to using the Touratech bracket with the stock Yamaha screen in the upper-most, tilted-most position.

I'm down for doing a Berryessa ride though if it's not in the next 3 weekends!

I am traveling now. Home by Thursday. Leave for CAN/AK, 4-8 weeks, on June 12th. Berryessa is a good ride.

Got my deflectors today ... fitted perfectly ... no idea why some of you had problems. Must've been a duff batch that you got.

In my case it prolly more the loose nut behind the screwdriver! Got tired of waiting on Yamaha to and new well nuts and just recapped them. All good now.

Tried to install my deflectors but the wellnuts are defective.

Even a 5mmx0.8 bolt won;t go through them, much less the plastic screws. It's like the brass insert is not properly threaded or something.

I'll cal stadium Yamaha but my guess is I'll have to get wellnuts and hardware elsewhere.

Andy

EDIT: Had to send a tap through each wellnut and tons of brass came out. Of course by then the plastic screws were ruined...

I got my dealer to throw in free fitting on any bits I bought with the bike - Sucker  I had heard the Heated Grips and Side Deflectors were a pain so let him deal with them.

I think the price is almost fair enough though, £79 which compares well to BMW ones which are similar construction, smaller and cost twice as much - however we are still paying a lot more than you guys in the states (for the bike, parts and everything else come to that :()

Still find wind noise deafening, much louder with earplugs in than my GS with Givi Airflow was with Earplugs out - so just ordered the Givi ::008::

I had the dealer put mine on and they look great and seem to be very functional. They did not say there were any problems installing them , glad I didnt have to do it. I really like them and when people look at it, they ask about them.
Apparently there is alot of work that went into these
research and testing. They work good and look great.

By chance would anyone happen to know what the part number is for each piece? I managed to take mine off and lose 3 screws and 3 black rubber pieces. That leaves me with enough to re-install one. Should it go left or right side? :-\ LOL

Order the set of 6 from CalSci. I've done that twice. They're a reasonable deal and they come right away. And they're the right ones!

How on earth did you manage to do that  Did you happen to be doing a bit of fettlin' in the midst of a tornado or something ::) :)
