I feel bad for all the guys who bought the whole new design R1 last year. They were listed for something like 17K and dealers were fetching upwards to north of 20K for them. Now to answer Hondas new Fireblade into, Yamaha is making an insane bike for the track. I left Kawasaki out of the mix just because their supercharged bike is just made to go fast and not compete on the track.

No shaft. . . . no cruise. . . . no interest. :D But, seriously, beautiful bike. . . . capable bike. . . . fantastic bike. Just not one that I would like to ride for any length of time, on the roads that I travel. I'm betting that anybody that recently bought an R1m, was told about the upcoming model. There seems to be more news about the insane bikes; R1/6. The dealer here knew they were going to get a pre-production R1m a couple of years ago when the first big change happened. It was supposed to be a non-functional unit; display only. Well. . . . . the mechanics found out what was keeping it from functioning. . . . .

Edit: just looked at the Yamaha website, and the price for the "M" is listed as the same for 2020 & 2021; $26,099. The "regular" R1 is listed for $17,399, but there's always been a price difference between the two.

Ohhh dear....Love me some motorcycle porn.:p

Had my fair share of neck snapping crotch rockets in the past and although I still long for them, my aging body could not withstand the torture test. My license would vanish fairly quickly which begs the question...where do these bikes get to open up and show their true pedigree?

I took it to the track years ago and never looked back.
No risking my license and no road “furniture” to deal with when I push the bikes limits to failure.
True be told....most limits pushed and broken are mine...rarely if ever the bikes.
Love me some motorcycle porn though!!!

Pass on super sports been there done that. I spent a good year on a 2008 zx6r. Great bike in the canyons but the power was overkill and it belongs on the track. However your post is porn too me so then I will set aside one stock, lube and enjoy the show.

I'm not the target market. Looks like every other sport bike looks to me. Sport bikes, cruisers, choppers...all stuff that holds no more interest to me than the latest mini-van. That's nice, moving on.

It will be an amazing ride, but these bikes really only exist to feed the race bike market.

I left SS bikes behind 6 years back, when my 2012 ZX10R just had to go. Solo, it was a blast to ride, but it was just too stupid quick for modern road conditions. Now I have an FJR ES instead, more than enough pace & a pleasant rather than 'white knuckle' experience for SWMBO on the pillion.

Seriously?

The R1M has been available since 2015. Next time you want to notify us of the new bikes available maybe double check a few things.
Ground breaking news six years late is a bit much.

My bad. I messed up. I could have sworn this was an upgrade from last years model. In my defense the high spec one has only been available in my local shops the last year or so.

I must ev been under a rock since 2015 1st I heard of the R1M was the OP's post. Think it's cool Yamaha offers up a bike like that, the limited Euro bikes come in at 2-3 times the cost & the R1M looks like it has everything they got except 4-5 years of Moto America championship experience behind it.
