It might be worth while checking the price of Yamaha heated grips again.

The price for them in Sweden just recently dropped five-fold from 4995 SEK to 995 SEK! I.e. from ~$700 to ~$140. I ordered a set at the new, heavily reduced price.

Guessing that Yamaha have realised that original price was unreasonable. This is not a minor price adjustment!

I like heated grips, and have the Gerbing G3 heated gloves, which have been great on my ST 1300 and F 800 GS. On longer rides in heavy rain though, the G3 gloves tend to soak through, despite TONS of waterproofing treatment, and once it gets really cold (single digits) the G3s can't pump out enough heat to make up for the wind. For the S10, I'm thinking of getting some bar mitts -

Anyone have experience with these?

Thanks,

Chris,

I just ordered a set of the hippo hands that are designed to fit on dual sport bikes with handlebar mirrors and hand guards.

I hope this holds true as I really wanted the yamaha branded heated grips but not at the original price. I also think WASP's mounting bracket is the tidiest mounting solution for the controller.

I actually quized the guy at the Yamaha parts dealership about the price reduction and he could not tell me why the price was reduced other than saying that "4995" was probably a typo with an unintentional "4" at the beginning :)

Whatever the case, I picked up my heated grips yesterday. The guy gave me a further 10% off meaning my final price was 895 SEK! This is only 18% of the original price!!

My money would be on an error, but not in the original pricing, but in the pricing you're now getting. In other markets, these grips are priced consistent with the original price. Or maybe they're just filling up the warehouse of the Swedish importer and he wants to blow them out.

In any event, congratulations, seriously good deal.

To those of us waiting in the US, I wouldn't be holding one's breath waiting for these things to come down to $100. I could see $350 or maybe $300 (which would start to align pricing with what heated grip options have traditionally cost), but not $100.

This may not be such a crazy idea. The dealership in Sweden orders the parts from Yamaha's depot in Belgium or Holland. Can't quite remember which. Some of the Yamaha original farkles are manufactured by sub-contractors in the US. This is the case for the touring windshield and wind deflectors which had US post marked packaging when I got them. In any case might be time well spent to investigate this further. The price I paid included 25% Swedish sales tax.

If it's anything like Yamaha US, most dealers are contractually prohibited from shipping to markets covered by other importers, although some do it anyway.

Does the ST come with a plug on it so if you buy the Yami grips they will just plug right in.

Yes... All pre-wired and all "plug & play".

Greg.

Greg, I have been considering your mounting bracket to get the heated grips controller tidily under the instrument panel. Did you have to make any adjustments to the wiring lengths to fit the controller there? Do you provide mounting instructions including routing of wiring? What total cost to me to get the part shipped to Sweden?

Go through here martinh: http://www.motorradgarage.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=106_247&products_id=1163

The price of $AU29 on the website is for Australian purchasers and includes 10%gst which will be deducted at the time of purchase for international orders.
As I recall post is around $12 or $14.
Yes, there are comprehensive full color instructions that include descriptions of the lay of cables, and there are no adjustments required to the Yamaha supplied harness.

Greg.

I have used these from Aerostitch. Flexible, take from one bike to the other and work great.

I just got a set of those for my WR250R. While I like them, I don't think they will last more than a winter riding season. Plus, they add alot of extra girth to grips. For a bike the ST, I'd go thru the effort of wiring up real heated grips. I have yet to place an order for a US ST, and will most likely add on the factory grip option with the WASP plate mod.

Greg, where did they hide the plug on the ST? once I get the bike I am going to have to figure out what heated grips I want to go with. yami's are expensive compared to hot grips. I would still have to get a thermostat from warm and save to run them.
