Any of you European guys have feedback on the Yamaha heated grips? Price right now seems a bit steep. How well do they work? Are they worth the $$ ? Starting to think I'm just going to get a set of hot grips which can be had for less than $50.

I don't have them but I'm an convinced user of heated gloves and other heated clothes. In my opinion those things work better.

I got them included with the middle package that was offered by Yamaha. It included the top case, Heated grips, "touring" windscreen and a few other things.

MCN Just did a review this month for heated grips. Oxford got a buy rating at 170 degrees per side, as did another heated grip company from the Seattle area. I will ge the name when i get back home on friday. They didn't like either of the ones from AeroStich Riderwarehouse. The article did say the Oxfords had to have the control panel replaced to work. This also happened to my buddies bike this summer when we were installing.

I too would like a heat rating on what the Yammie grips can do. I am a HUGE fan of OEM plug and play accessories and usually pay the money for them, but haven't had the best luck with wither Honda or Suzuki grips so far.

Jeff,

FWIW, I hear good things about the Yammie grips. It is the same kit as the FJR set. I too am leaning that way as I don't like modifying the wiring harness if at all possible.

I'll probably go Symtecs under BMW sport grips, along with a 3-circuit switched power relay setup from Easter Beaver. $30 is hard to argue with for basically similar functionality and I like to choose my own grips. And $400 for the Yamaha option is outrageous - BMW accessory prices are high, but are 40% less than this.

I'm with you Mark. Symtecs under ProGrip rally grips for me. I have these on my Strom and KTM. For $50 I am set and they have worked great for me.

Found this pic from a ride report over on Advrider. Note the how the cables obscure the gauges. As I understand it these are the Yamaha provided grips.

Those are throttle cables aren't they? I think I read that you can also assemble the housing so that the cables come out on the bottom. I may be wrong there...

I too am a fan of the plug and play but don't think I'm going to spring the $$$ for the Yam stuff. Too many other options out there. I've got to save some money for all the other stuff I'm going to start buying...

Well I find that Yamaha OEM grips get rather too hot on anything above three quarter power. But I love the heated grips and the fact that the hand guards accentuate the efficiency.

Yes, as I understand it, this cable interference issue has nothing to do with heated grips. Some folks complain bitterly about it, others don't notice it at all. I haven't heard of a "fix", but it may be something I'll look into.

I read somewhere that the Yamaha heated grip kit included this new fixture for routing the cables and that casued the problem.

I like the Honda OEM heated grips and controller on my ST1300A, but think I will go with the Symtecs with a $5 relay on the S10. I use them under Pro Grips on my KLR 650 and they work well enough. I don't care for the price or the controller on the Yamaha kit and don't know how comfortable the grips are. My ST1300 OEM grips are comfortable, but the Honda OEM heated grips for the NT700 (Deauville) for instance are hard as a rock and very uncomfortable.

I find the price also a bit to steep. Retail price is set to 405 euros and that's a steep price for heated grips. Even on a expensive BMW they 'only' cost 220 euros.

Because of the steep price I went to a friend of mine who is selling Gerbring heated gloves and body warmers. I was stunned. They do a fine job and I have a vest and glaves + cables and even a 4000 mAmp battery with remote controle, all that for the same price.

A good overnight sleep hopefully helps me decide what to go for.

I have a pair of the latest Gerbing heated gloves. They are excellent plus they're waterproof. Much better than heated grips IMO as they keep the back of your hand warm.

Swagger, are those the plug in gloves or the re-chargeable battery operated ones? I have a pair of the gerbings battery operated, and they work well on short commutes but are not waterproof.

Yeah Swagger can you give us some more info on those gloves, I have heated grips at the moment but I can see how the combination of the Super Ten hand guards and heated gloves could be a great combo.

I'll stick something into the gear section later on this subject.
