OK... so I finally pushed my front wheel a tad too far today. In my exuberance to fully explore the limits of the new Motoz Tractionator rear, I picked a less than ideal line and dinged the front pretty bad - or at least worse than the other dings that were already there.

This one caused the tire to leak above 25psi. It got me home with some restraint on my part. I got Fancy up on the lift table, removed the tire/wheel, had it on the Nomar to strip the front rubber, and then got busy straightening the bead. I have it where it will hold air (so far...) but the time has come to look at a new front rim even as I limp this one along.

I am perusing the Fleabay auctions for parts bikes and using all my other online wiles to track one down. If anybody has one or knows of one, please feel free to email me directly - trikepilot using Gmail.

Thanks

Been in contact with Woodys since the outset.

Got the front rim "fixed" for now but still looking for the ultimate repair over the winter.

Also interested in any feedback from others that have gone or attempted to go 21" with the front. I have searched the forum here and am going thru all the the old threads on 21" front wheels.

Go online and look for one of the wheel places that fixes rims for people with sports cars. Those people are harder on their rims than even you.

I don't get it.

Put a tube in it and ride?
What happened to you while I was gone?
Your fixing stuff and buying replacement parts these days?
Bought a Brand New Husky too, I see.

Lol

But congrats on finishing school!
And where's the tat thread? I gotta see it.

Edit: just saw the link. Duh

You know, I haven't been able to find a rear Tractionator in 17" yet. Been meaning to ask where you found one.

If you ever find any info on a 21" front wheel that fits the Tenere I'd love to know about it ! My guess is if there was a 21" front available that easily fit the Tenere there would be lots of 19" Tenere wheels for sale.

Snake… ever the voice of reason. Yes, I am tubed now to get by. But the rim is pretty messed up so I am looking at my options on the used market. I have time as winter is here and riding days are fewer and further between. But, yes… a tube works just fine in the tire. And I take offense at your insinuation... Fancy may be dirty and scarred up but I take pains to keep her in prime mechanical shape. This "squared off" front wheel falls into the want to fix but not desperate to fix category for the time being.

The Husky is quite the bike. But you already know it as you have its virtual clone in orange.

Indeed. Issues with clearance to many of the skidplates out there and then needing a tube. The tube part is a non-issue for me but the clearance is.

Finding a 21" front was a big deal when the bike was relatively new and I believe it was Woody's Wheel Works who came up with one. And then people started to realize the downsides, so be aware that you need to consider:

Those 21" tires need a different higher fender to keep from packing up with mud which will lock the front tire. They also need a different set of brake lines due to the cross-over.

The 7.5" between the front fender at full extension and compression is reduced, meaning that some of the aux lighting options are too big.

We already have a problem with front fenders catching skidplates if people use fender extenders. Having had this happen, I can tell you that it locks up your steering pretty darned fast and results in a broken fender. The high front fenders can (not always) have a similar problem when turned fully to one side or the other.

Looking forward to you taking me to the woodshed for picking on Fancy. (Still my all time favorite Tenere)
Read your RR on ADV.
You are still one crazy dude!
Hope you find exactly the rim you are looking for.

With only a couple of weeks to go, is your back-up plan a tube?
