I used the search and read a ton of stuff on the clutch switch. After not finding what I was looking for. I decided to post. My gen 1 wouldn't start in gear with the clutch pulled today. I'm assuming the clutch switch has fizzed out. Anybody changed it?

Just to make sure, kick stand switch working correctly? Also, I noticed early on that she cranks MUCH slower when I start in gear with clutch lever pulled in. So, I now NEVER start in gear; only park in gear. And with your humidity, I'd try cleaning the switch first; easier/cheaper just to make sure.

If that is the case, then maybe your clutch is dragging?

My sidestand switch works. Clutch switch works fine disengaging my mccruise when I pull it. So I’m thinking it might be ok. Maybe not. Any thoughts.

the clutch has 2 switches, the first is for the cruise, the second is for the clutch well pressed. close your ear to the clutch lever and you should be able to hear both "clicks"
Maybe the second “click” have a problem, for me “this is the problem”

I'm with JlQ1969 - definitely sounds like the clutch switch playing up. Just check for the sound of the two internal switches working, if you can discern it, & make sure everything is working in the mechanical sense. Sometimes a little contact spray cleaner, followed by exercising the switch through it's full movement may help. Depends on the age/mileage TBH & often easier just to replace.

Are you the first owner? Did you make or have a jumper on the clutch switch to improve the response in the first three gear? If the jump is right, you should be able to start the bike in a gear without any need to press the clutch (which is dangerous), but if the jump is disconnected, the ecu does not receive a signal from the clutch, so it takes it as not being tight
The jump is connected to the second “click” cable.

I’m the original owner. Got a flash 4years and did away with the jumper. Just put the mccruise on. Looks like a clutch switch is in my future. If that doesn’t get it. Hmmmm Ordered the clutch switch $37.

Thanx for the inputs homies. This site is my only hope for help. My 2 local shops are flooded with 4 wheelers and utvs and have mechanics that I've had some shitty expensive results with.My bike would be a first. I don't think I heard any clicks pulling or releasing. Maybe 1 slight click early that felt like pressure building. $37 for that little switch is robbery. Could be worse. I used to get online junk yard parts for my dirt bikes. Got some junk too a few times.

before changing it, you should check it with a tester (voltmeter) maybe it's working fine even if you do not hear the "clicks" and the problem is elsewhere

Already ordered it. If this don't get it. Whats next? Should it give a fault code?
You sound just like me, but let's take things a step at a time. Fit the clutch switch & see if that's the answer.

Should that not fix it you will need to run/ride the bike & see if there are any further fault/error codes appearing, but just park that for now.

It wasn’t the clutch switch. Still won’t start in gear.
I'm guessing there has to be some sort of electrical detector to tell the bike it is in gear. Not sure how that would work but someone will know. On the gen 1 it may be as simple as "I'm not in neutral so I must be in gear". Does the neutral light still work?
