I installed mine after the Madstad bracket and screen. Noticeable improvement, and am glad I purchased them. I did get some sun glare reflections because of the angle, so I used some Krylon flat black and painted them. Looks stock and no more glare. I know of at least one other person who did something similar to kill the glare.

Thinking of buying a set of wings to deflect some wind blast
Opinions please
Do they work and are these effective?
Thanks

I was on the fence about the deflectors, after installing them noticed big improvement at highway speeds as far as much smoother air flow , I also use oem tall windscreen. They are worth it IMO.

Hi Shumba, I will admit that i was in 2 minds, do i, do i not ?
Any way, i did, and the diference is quite noticeable. Well worth having them fitted.
Anything that keeps the cold windblast of the rider, is well worth it, in my book.
Ok thanks for your assistance and comments
Wasn't thinking about the cold wind blast, but since you mentioned it and as I do ride early spring and late into the fall, wings will offer additional comfort to protect me from the cold. Initially, I was just thinking about the general wind noise and blast as I like to ride a little fast on the open roads.
Thanks again

It is hard for me to describe, but the winglets helped get cleaner air. Also, when riding in the rain, a dryer cockpit. Very much worth it to me.
Thanks for your reply and comments, appreciated
Good to know that in addition to sheltering the rider from wind blast in the higher speeds these wings assist with shelter from the cold and rain.
I will very likely buy a set
Thanks again

Thanks for your input, yes I've read about the sun glare. I'll try them as is and can remove them in case I want to paint them.
Thanks again

That's primarily why I want to add these wind deflectors, but as other forum members have pointed out they also provide protection in cold weather and deflect rain.

I like them a lot-kind of expensive for two pieces of plexiglass but nice addition. What tickled me was the factory instructions tell you to remove the windscreen before installation-totally unnecessary and to tighten screws to 1/2 a Newton meter-That’s pretty exact.

Great tip, as I don't want to have to remove the windscreen to add these wings.
1/2 NM, why that equals a very gentle flick of the wrist.
Thanks for the tip

They do deflect rain and bugs better, looks like Yamaha did their homework as far as aerodynamics on those winglets.

Inglis was having a sale so I got mine for about $160, since they have always been on I have nothing to compare. I will say I do get some glare but that is only once in a while, not sure I would go to the bother of painting them but that sure would make them look nice. Great idea.

How ya doin with your new Tenere?
9,200 km so this season for me.
That's not a bad price. I have seen higher. The set I'm looking at are gently used, but should fit as they are off a Gen 2 bike.

SHUMBA.
I installed them I my bike as well. They made a big difference in my cold Kansas winters. I do take them off in the summer. I think the tenere is warm bike.
Interesting, our summers here in Ontario Canada often get rather hot in the vicinity of 34 C or about 100 F
I ride spring and fall, but the lowest temperatures are about 6 C or 40 F.
Don't trust the traction on the tyres at lower temperatures.

Been thinking about making a defector for the radiator heat. My left leg gets extremely warm in the summer. Then flipping it over in the winter. Just haven't decided yet what to use.

My 13 came with winglets but I also did a test ride on a new 18 without winglets and noticed the extra wind pretty quick. So I kept the winglets from the 13 and installed them on my new 18, All I had to do was cut a couple inches off the front end and they fit perfectly. I used one of those air operated cutoff wheels for use on steel from Harbor Freight and they cut very nice and easy, I actually had to cut them off a couple times to get them to fit the way I wanted.
