Hey Group,

I've often wondered why people chose other than clear for the windshield? Have some of you found an advantage over Clear, by using Light Gray and Medium Gray tint options?

I'm in the process of ordering a Madstad specific to the Tenere with the bracket and was offered a choice of tint...maybe it's for aesthetics reasons?

Cheers

Some portion of the average windshield is just for ....well, shielding wind. You actually never "look" through it.

So you don't have to live with a big clear screen if you are feeling creative. :)

Some people have had their instrument cluster melt a little in the heat. Tint would help that.
I tried to paint the lower half of the Tall OEM shield and man, they must put some kinda slick coating on it cause it would not take paint at all!

I've sprayed truck bed liner on the inside lower portion of the windshields on several bikes. Looks great from the front. The coating has proved to be very durable.

I have the MRA X-Creen Touting in dark tent like the look and cuts down on the glare a bit.

I like to have the top edge of the screen in the middle of my view so I can duck under it or sit up and look over it when I want to. If it is tinted too much I think it would be an obstruction to my clear view. If it was polarized it would be a good thing to reduce glare.

I had a very dark tint short screen on my DL years ago and that worked well and made the bike look much better, but anything in my line of sight that is not clear causes an obstruction that I feel I have to 'look over'. That's just my preference.

Having a tint to the screen helps cut down glare when on the road.
Especially if you are traveling on roads with a light coloured surfaces like concrete highways.
Glare can be rather annoying and tiring if you traveling long distance.

Aesthetically it also adds to the bikes looks.

I bought a light tint Madstad screen for my Versys. Both myself and the salesperson agreed that a light tint cuts gown the glare from the road.

Talk about glare! I had a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe for a few years. If anyone knows what that bike was like........Chrome everywhere near the rider!
By the time I sold it, I had blacked the lower half of windshield, black plasti-dip most of the chrome on top that reflects the sun right into your eyes.

That bike convinced me to NEVER have a bike with chrome anymore!!!! ::005::
My father had either the Roadliner or Stratoliner (can't remember which) and traded it because of this same reason!

I need to tint the lower part of my V-stream because when the sun hits it; there is a magnifying glass effect on my gauges and it melted part of the area around the gauges. But generally I've never had tint. Too much obstruction and I want to see as much as possible. Especially at night.

tint can look cool and in very bright conditions it can cut down on glare/light. I find, however, it's easier to change out sunglasses than it is screens, particularly when you are nowhere near home. Thus I always go clear. There can be an advantage to having lower portions blacked out. The new Vstream I just put on is clear on top and blacked out around the instruments,
that I actually like:

The main reason is the factory is always wrong on factory equipment, so for sure if it comes clear, it should be anything but clear. So choose your color other than clear. If the factory sees some reason to fit colored windscreens, then fit clear ones.
