It will cost more in time and effort to take it back. This is the first time in my life I have had a spray tip missing from a purchase. I'm not going to get in the habit to check for missing tips. No more shopping at Walmart. Problem solved.

I had not thought of kids stealing tips for doing graffiti art. I'm fortunate that we don't have that problem where I live.
Take a deep breath. It's not exclusively a WalMart issue. You will either get in the habit of checking for spray tips or this will happen to you again. I've seen shoppers 'testing' colors of spray cans in Home Depot and Lowes before too, along with stealing tips. It's a spray can issue, not a Walmart issue.

It was so convenient that you went to Walmart for the lube instead of an auto parts store to begin with, so how is it less convenient to take it back and get what you paid for? You're letting your angst fool you into throwing away your money and the useless can of lube.

I have the Lowes app, they do tell you where in the store the item is supposed to be, usually it's not there.
If you're up for fun some day, when you notice that, go get a manager and say "I love being able to find things in your store from the app, except that you don't follow the store procedures and this item isn't where it's listed to be. Can you explain why that is?" Then file a complaint with Corporate. THAT issue is totally an individual store issue, not a brand issue. The only time I've encountered that it was out of stock and remaining stock was directly or almost directly above on a high shelf.

In terms of finding help at stores. Yes, most of us are old enough to remember when this was a key feature of retail. It's not any more. EVERY STORE is self serve now. Get used to it. If you ask for help, the first thing the associate is going to do is pull out their phone. And do what you could have done with your phone.

Good advice Eric. I probably will forget at some point and hopefully it will be another 59 years before it happens again ;)

I would have just taken a tip off of one of my other spray cans. I've done that before when one gets clogged. I don't know about y'alls W-Ms, but around here, there are two floorplans that they have an option of using. Not every W-M is the same. Also, every couple of years, they do an "overhall", and change everything. A W-M manager told me that their "studies" showed that people desired change. And, that if a store didn't "change", customers would go elsewhere. o_O Maybe I'm weird, but the exact opposite describes me. I hate going to a store, knowing where the item I need is, only to find they have changed where it's kept.

That's a lie. They change because if you have to wander the whole store to find what you need, the studies say you are more likely to impulse buy something that you didn't plan on buying when you walked in. I've read some of those studies. This is very common practice for all market like businesses that carry a wide range of items.

I didn't say that I believed him. :D That's just what he said. I knew the real reason, I was wondering what the "official" line was going to be. :D

Our neighbor was an area manager for a national grocery chain and she's talked about how much they experiment on customers by trying this and that. They've learned that occasionally moving items makes customers stay and see more products while looking. She said the more people see the more likely they will grab something they would not have bought before. The odds of buying something once touched are overwhelming so they will do ANYTHING to get a customer to touch an item on a shelf.

Yes I hear lots of complaining but Walmart still Somehow manages to be about the most Busy store out there. Yes it does get aggravating the way they move stuff around sometimes. My biggest complaint would Probably be dealing with some of the other customers absolute lack of manners-respect for others.

Preach it brother!! Probably the main reason we're in our current predicament. But, we can't blame W-M for that. You're also right about it being the busiest store, but it's no surprise since you can get whatever you need under one roof.

They can do all the studies they want. It's a waste of money to "reorganize stores" for shoppers like me. I rarely impulse buy. I make a list and stick to it. Exception is when I see something I forgot to put on the list that's needed. Most mature, educated humans do not shop on impulse. In the grocery store, purchasing items on the end caps leads to unhealthy weight gain. I almost never buy products at eye level. I scan the bottom and top of shelves when shopping. When a stand is blocking products in the isle I immediately move it out of the way. 9 times out of 10 the cheaper (in cost) product is behind it.

Have I made the mistake of impulse shopping? Hell yes!! I purchased a KTM 300 EXC. It was the biggest money pit and maintenance intensive bike ever. Lesson learned!!

I broke down this morning, and ordered a pair of boat fenders (bumpers) from WM. I wanted them today, and WM was less then half the price of West Marine. It was to be a store pick up, at the orange "tower" thing they have. No person contact, you show a bar code, your item drops down. They have added a drive up option to work with that. So I drove up, after getting the email stating it was ready. Called in to the store, the guy said, you have to come in, but don;t bother the tower is busted. Has been since yesterday, they did not know when they would fix it. But- they put my order inside it? yup. Knowing it was broke. I cancelled the order, drove up to Cabelas. Spent a little more then Wally wanted, but my boat is parked tonight. Side note- why was Cabela almost out of fishing rods?

I've noticed that everything associated with an outdoor activity is selling out of stock. I'm thinking that with so many people being out of work, and school, people are getting outdoors to stay busy. Tried finding a little inflatable pool for the granddaughter. All the local stores were out of stock, some of which were showing several to be in stock on line, but really weren't. Finally found one on Amazon, but still had to wait a week for delivery. So, Cabela's being low on fishing rods is no surprise.

There are a couple reasons for the out of stock problem- One is shoplifting, if the item doesn't get scanned at the checkout the store's inventory system doesn't know it's out of stock and doesn't order more. The other reason is the store's perennual short staffing to the point that inventory sits on the trailers and on the dock for days before anyone has time to put it on the shelves. It's gotten so bad that last year several Targets showed multiple copies of the "Ford vs. Ferrari" DVD in stock but I had to visit several to find one that had actually made it to the shelves.

Dig a hole in the yard and head over to Walmart for plastic sheet to line it with. Problem solved. Well maybe not. You might get the plastic home only to find someone poked holes in it!! :D
