I am thinking about buying a Tracer 900 GT and selling my 2015 Super Tenere......wondering about the ergos for tall people like me. I am 6'4" with a 35" inseam.........plus tired, old knees. I want a lighter motorcycle as my travel/long ride bike and the Tracer GT has the lower weight and features needed. I also have a Tenere 700 and Versys-X 300 for other riding duty.

So, who has owned a Super Tenere and has replaced it with the Tracer GT?? Tall, long leg people preferably. My Super Tenere has handlebar risers, tall windshield, lower pegs, and a taller seat mount....pretty comfortable for me. I am looking to shed about 100-125 by selling the S10 and replacing it with the GT.

I've owned four S10s since 20111 and am sort of ready to ride something different.

Good move??

I owned and rode a 2019 900 GT for 9 months, absolutely loved the engine and transmission but quickly loathed the 1940s final drive, (chain and sprockets). It was comfortable enough after adding bar risers and levelling the seat. Good enough handling with stock suspension and less weight than the T12 made it a joy to ride but ultimately sold it and I still have the T12 with shaft drive.
The CP3 engine is a gem, but I learned from the forum about tight valves and even a few ruined heads so I went in early to check mine. Found all the exhaust valves below the minimum clearance and one valve required the minimum shim available, did that and sold it, next owner can deal with replacing the valve.

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but when I test rode an FJ09 I recall my right foot bumping into something, possibly the clutch cover. I don't have big feet, and it wasn't a long ride, but it stuck with me.

Also, not sure if they changed things for the Tracer 900 over the FJ09 but I recall reading the subframes being weakish. As in no top case, with side bags, or something like that.

Same height and inseam. Before I ever looked at an S10 I test rode an FJ09 and that bike was definitely light, but it was gutless down low (coming from a Vstrom 1000). Size-wise, too small of a riders triangle (seat - bars - pegs). I next test rode an S10 and the much larger riders triangle sold me. You've made the riders triangle even larger on your S10 so IMO, an FJ09/TracerGT 900 is going to feel tiny to you.

No, don't do it.

I am 6'2" with a 35" inseam.

I owned a FJ-09 (predecessor to the Tracer) and 3 Super Tenere's. If comfort is a priority do not make the change. I sold my FJ after 3 months because I couldn't get comfortable on it. It took me sometime to figure out why. The CP3 engine is canted forward quite a bit. As a result the footpegs are 4 inches further rearward than those on the ST. For me and my long legs the riding position did not work and there was no way to fix it.

I still ride the Tracer 900 several times a year along with the rest of the Yamaha demo fleet and still have problems with all of the 900 based bikes due to the placement of the footpegs. I find the 700's to be far more comfortable.

I also have a 700 Tenere and it is a LOT better than the Tracer. I would still prefer a wider seat but for now am making due with the Rally seat.

It sounds like the voices of experience are telling me to ride the '15 S10. It is a great bike and just feels big and heavy because (it is) and the fact that I ride the Versys X300 all the time locally. I did ride the Niken and the XRS900 at a Yamaha demo day and loved the triple 900 engine. I'll admit to liking the Niken but see no reason to ever own one. It had a very sure footed, plush ride. Thanks for the input and I will just tough it out with the three great bikes I own for now. The S10 and X300 fit good and I am working on the T700.

I do need to buy a taller seat (waiting on Seat Concepts), install a T7 Rally windshield extender, a S W Motech centerstand, and S W Motech ION lowered foot pegs to get the T700 set up so it fits me better.

The 900 triple is fabulous. No doubt about that. I had always wished Yamaha had used that engine in the S10 rather than the 1200 twin.

The Niken is one of my favorites. I shouldn't have lumped it in with the other 900 based bikes. I am always happy to ride one when the opportunity presents itself (which is quite often). The chassis is excellent and it is the one Yamaha with a 900 engine that I am comfortable on. I would need to tweak the windscreen but little else. If I were you I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss this as a possible replacement to the S10. It is an extremely competent bike and has real world benefits with 2 front wheels. The front suspension is about as good as it gets. I think the rear shock could use a bit of tweaking to get it to better match the front. It is selling well in Europe but it has been slow to catch on in the US. There are some deals to be had and definitely something to keep under consideration.

Niken for $10,000

I have the Rally seat on my T700. It is a lot better than the stock seat but I would still prefer it to be a bit wider for additional support. With that seat the riding position is excellent even with the stock pegs. It is nearly identical to the S10. I have found no need to lower the pegs. In addition, if you would lower the pegs you would have trouble lowering the shifter a corresponding amount. With the stock pegs I have it lowered as far as it can go and simply could not run lower pegs without significant rework of the stock configuration.

So far, I have tried 3 different wind screen options on the T7. As of now, I think the MRA version may be the best choice. It is about 4" higher than stock and about 2" wider. I may try more as they become available. On my former BMW S1000XR I tried 7 different screens before I found one I was truly happy with.

If you didn't already by the windshield extender let me know. I have one that I would part with. I bought the extender, the Powerbronze taller windscreen with deflectors, and the MRA windscreen. For now I am going with the MRA and am selling the rest.

I almost got a Tracer GT. Loved the motor and the handling, but the foot pegs were higher and further back than my battered knees liked, even with my short 30" inseam. Just when I was about to pull the trigger a rare used Gen II S10 popped up on auction and I grabbed that instead. Better ergos but a lot heavier.
