I have be n a long time lurker here and have narrowed down my next bike of choice to a super tenere. I have had many bikes in my life and have ridden both street and dirt. In my current stable I have the following bikes.

KTM exc525
Kawasaki Klx250s
Yamaha Majesty 400

I picked up the Majesty for nearly nothing and put about12,000 miles on it in the last year. It has awoken my love for seeing new places. It handles the road much better than either dirt oriented bike.

My wife likes to go with two up and the S10 is my bike of choice that looks like it is very capable for what I want.

I have found the following bikes for sale within a three hour drive from home.
I’m looking for advice on which would be the best purchase.

Bike 1: 2012 black gen 1, comes with side guards and Yamaha sidecases and top case. Black, 3800 miles, $8200 second owner

Bike 2: 2014 blue gen 2, comes with Yamaha sidecases, heated handgrips, skid guard, side guards, 17000 miles, at a dealer and it came from an auction, $8200

Bikes 3,4 new 2016 leftover stock. Black, standard $10,800. ES $11,400 OTD plus tax.

Let me know your thoughts.

Welcome to the forum. Those are good prices on the leftover 16s. One of those would be my first choice. Nothing like a brand new bike.

Bike 2. Good price for an ES with some decent add ons. You will appreciate the ES going from solo riding to 2 up.

First, both Gen 1 & 2 are great bikes, but I would scratch the Gen 1. Much improvements on the Gen 2, and cruise control. If you have the finances to do it, the left over '16 ES. The reason being what was said in the last post above, switching for solo to two up with a click is great. Don't worry about the ES system, been very reliable on this and all the Yamaha bikes.

At those prices, my 1st choice would be the leftover 2016 one followed by the one owner 2012 Gen 1 bike. The bike from the auction may be fine but does it have known history?

Just pulled the trigger on the..... 2016 ES. Gonna go pick it up Saturday.
Welcome! I am assuming, by your avatar pic, that you live in a "cooler" climate. You will definitely appreciated the ES's heated handgrips.

I do live in a cooler climate. A new bike was out of my budget so to speak. But after watching for a used one for quite some time, making reasonable offers on some, the new one made the most sense. It will be winter here before I know it, and I can use that time to “equip” the bike how I want it. Maybe I can get it broken in by the time the snow falls.

I HATE our summers, but it does make for a 12 month riding season. You're going to LOVE the bike.

Congrats! So.....since you didn't purchase the other 2016....where is it located (asking for a friend, lol)?

This is in SLC. It seems all the good used ones were in your area. This was the last ES they had. The have 3 or 4 of the standard ones left.

You!!!!
You saved me from having to decide between the single ES they had and the remaining standards :)
I’ll be snagging one of the leftovers next week.
I called South Valley today and found out the one and only ES was just sold.
Congrats on the score.

Glad I helped make up your mind . I got the ES hoping that my wife will go on some adventures with me. I will turn 48 here in about a month and all of our kids have left the nest. It’s time to either “get busy living, or get busy dieing”. She calls it a midlife crisis. Whatever. I call it the inner boy in me, that’s not done yet. I’m sure most of us here can relate to that.

My wife took off of work early, she wanted to go get the bike. And our son is flying in from being Active duty in Afghanistan for the past year on Saturday.

Here she is:
Congratulations. If the planets align properly tomorrow I’ll be taking one of their other ones home. You know, one without ES :)

Sooo. Did your stars align? They were setting up a new tenere for someone while I was picking mine up. It was getting factory bags on it. I was hoping it was yours.
