You know how when youget a new vehicle you suddenly start seeing the same vehicle all over the place?

Well that hasn't happened. I've had my ST for a month and I haven't seen a single other ST on the road. Where are all ya pansies? It's not that cold!

There is a few of us in southern California. Maybe everyone moved out when they raised the registration fees? ::021::

Maybe your not looking in the right places.
I got in a 250 mile ride on Tuesday.
Sebastopol to Hopland over the grade through Lake County on 175 to Middletown then Butts Canyon to Lake Hennessey into Napa Valley then back over Calistoga to home.
A nice 50 degree day, as you said not to cold.

LOL, I've ridden all the way west to Nebraska on my S10, and all the way up to Maine, and down into Georgia, and in all those miles, the number of Super Teneres I've seen could be counted on one hand. In fact, I can only specifically remember four; One at Sandhills Yamaha in NC, one on the road in Charlotte, one near the beginning of the Kancamagus Highway, and one at the Gateway Diner in Riverton, WV. That's in three years and 43,000 miles. Those of us that inhabit S10 forums have a sort of confirmation bias; we're always talking to other S10 owners, so we get the impression that there are a lot more of them out there than there probably are. My local Yamaha dealer, before they shut down, said they'd sold a grand total of one since they'd been introduced in 2010 (the dealership closed last year, so that's six years). Mine was only the second one they'd looked at, when I took it in for inspection. I've never seen any model specific sales figures released by Yamaha, but I'll take a wild guess and say that it's not one of their top sellers. Adventure bikes may be the fastest growing segment of motorcycles, but Harleys, Harley clones, and sport bikes still dominate.

Ahhhh....the Kancamagus. (officially jealous) I've only seen two Teneres in the last year and a half. Definitely scarce.

In two years I’ve put almost 40K on my ‘15, so I’m out there...

It was definitely worth the trip up there, Sierra. The White Mountains are really beautiful. Plus, the air up there smelled better than any place I've ever been, including Colorado.

I see about 1 or 2 teneres every few months in the Austin texas area. looks like they are headed some where. so I'm thinking most tenere owners travel the more rural roads than the major highways so seeing them is rare. you cant swing a dead cat without hitting a bmw or Harley rider around here. its like we are a rare species of ( you fill in the blank ) _________ , makes us unique.

I say around here in my region it's common to see one or more Tereres on most every ride...and I'm not counting when my wife is riding with me.

I do remember riding across Nebraska this summer and seeing a Tenere rider going the other way. He was waving so big you would think he'd never seen another Tenere, then alone two Teneres in his travels. His apparent excitement made us smile for days.

I love the fact that I can go for a decent spin and not see another S10 on the road, it makes me feel special!

That's how the guy acted when I ran into him near the Kancamagus Highway. He came zipping across the parking lot and pulled up beside me at the gas pumps, and was genuinely stoked to see another S10 in the wild. I confess, I was too!

I do love the Kancamagus Highway. I've had Teneres on it several times.

I guess I'm jaded. I live near Romney who sells more Teneres that probably any other dealer. We do the Romney Camp N Ride in the area and always have 20 to 30+ Teneres for that. So many of the guys I ride with throughout the year are on Teneres. If this area were typical I'd think every 4th bike Yamaha sold was a Tenere.

I know that's not true because when we rode through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska we stuck out like sore thumbs looking like space aliens to the other riders. People were really amused to see the strange looking people on the strange looking bikes. By the time we made it to Banff, and later Fairbanks we were back to a Tenere in every 10 bikes you saw. It truly is location dependent.

That's where I went to buy mine. It was worth the six hour ride up there; they gave me the best price, and the best deal on my V-Strom trade.

When I decided on getting the S10, just finding one to look at up close was next to impossible; the nearest place that had one was 2 and a half hours away. They also wouldn't budge on price (it was full MSRP), and gave me a real song and dance about trade in prices. I found Romney on line, and they were waaaay under the dealership price down here, plus they were upfront about what they'd do on a trade. I bought the bike over the phone. Romney's seems to really cultivate the ADV market, rather than treat it as an afterthought. When new bike time comes, they're my first stop as long as I'm somewhere on the east coast.

The predominant ADV bike I see on my travels is still a GS. I did see a KTM 1290 Super Adventure earlier this year up on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. That's the only one of those I've seen in the wild. Man, it was fast.

Maybe it's because there's more air at the lower elevations. On top of Mt. Washington LOOKS like Colorado, but it's only 6,200ft. Gotta get back up that way. ::001::

Well there’s my problem, I was stuck at work! That’s a great loop. Hope to see you out there sometime.
