Decided to go up to Rollins Pass via the indirect route thru Apex. The Morning started out clear then got really hazy by noon. The new springs in the forks made a big difference. Didn't bottom out once. Believe me, it wasn't from lack of trying. Lots of speed and hidden pot holes....as well as the rocks

The end of the road, because of the tunnel being closed. This is at about 11,300 ft.

The warning sign about a mile below the closure

On the way down. In the lower rh corner is the side road I took from the Central City. Apex area

WHAT A SUPERB ALL AROUND BIKE THE XT1200 IS!
Together with my son, we just completed a two weeks tour from Sweden (TET) through Denmark (transport only sorry), Germany (through the Hartz mountain and Thüringen's beautiful landscape), Switzerland (alps and valleys) and back. The pics can't even begin to describe the thrill.
The bikes easily cleared muddy TET roads, scenic byways, mountain switchbacks, Alp passes and the boring Autobahn (with GPS speeds of up to 200 km/h (125 mph).
Perfect weather 12 of the 13 days!
The goal was to ride as many Alp passes as possible. We completed nine different ones (some of them multiple times just for fun  ).
Two "hiccups":
- Switzerland is EXPENSIVE (since we were well aware of this, detours to Germany at times to stock up on necessities)
- Why put loud pipes on bikes and scream through the picturesque villages causing nothing but badwill for all bikers?

Picking up freshly baked "brötchen" for breakfast at 6 AM
Early morning in the Hartz mountains
Biker hotel in Thüringen
Old Wartburg factory museum in Eisenach
Dinner with a view of a Monastery (dating back to 745 A.D.!!) in southern Germany.
Best food (Curry wurst mit pommes und mayo) and best bike accessories shop (Louis Motorrad)
How do you ask for a refill with a name like this?!?
Speechless
Nirvana
Nirvana again

Due to Corona, we had to limit alp passes to Switzerland as Swedes are not looked upon as trustworthy in Austria.
But all in all, a fantastic trip and although we've been here many times, we discover new gems every time!
Thanks for the mini trip report and the great photos. With winter creeping in here in Northern Europe, it gives us something to think about for next year.

That Europe (and a little beyond) map in your signature, is that all the places you’ve ridden, a bit like the map some of those from the US use? If so, is it something you personally created, or is it available somewhere?

That blaze orange 'vest' made me laugh so hard... I'd bet money that two story tall trophy bull has previous damage to it. That is so over the top funny.

Thanks for reading my ramblings about the last trip. Yes, all colored countries, states and listings have been visited on two wheels.
I'm truly blessed having had the opportunity to do all this travel with great riding "buddies" .
Clear favorite is the trip from Sweden to Japan with my son. Directions: go south to Greece and turn left!
There are many websites where you can create colored maps, i.e. mapchart. Not sure what I used in this case.

Thank you. Do you have a blog or a photo site?

That is an impressive and incredible number of places to ride, hopefully you’ll add many more.

I’ve done the bulk of Europe, as far east as Slovakia/Hungary and as far south as Croatia. I’m retired now, so once Covid is behind us I can travel properly again. 2022 I’ll add Scandinavia and the Baltic states. Then Romania, Bulgaria and ..........

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words Boris.
Since I just retired myself, hopefully the list can be extended.
Some of the craziness can be found on www.rabelaisrider.com (thanks to my son).
Let me know when Scandinavia is on your to do list

Neptune's net, it's been a good 3 weeks since I rode. The longest I've gone without riding in 5 years. Had an Audi r8 get scared of me when I told him to slow down because he kept pushing me. Why was he scared? because I was riding with one free hand and I think he thought was going toss something. Which I wasn't scouts honor, even though I was never in the scouts. Beside tossing shit because it's a felony in CA but my hand sometimes makes contact with mirrors through no fault of my own.

Rode the NEBDR Section one from start to Peaceful Valley Campsite. The very first dirt section was a challenging, short climb and descent with wet rock ledges and loose stones.
IIRC, it was River Rd. that had a nice, long stretch with small shale ledges which was easy to navigate(2nd time I had to be up on my pegs).
The last memorable part was a dirt road that turned to wet clay at a steep downhill turn. I was going a bit fast, but still managed it... with a bit of a tail wagging.
Not as many challenging sections as I'd thought there'd be, but I only rode 130 miles of it before stopping at the site. Still a fun ride :)

I was worried that my tires, and I, wouldn't be up to the task given my meager off-road biking experience. Dunlop Trail Mission F&R. We both performed
than I expected! Might have been because I left the panniers and topcase at the campsite...

Rode down to the Ozarks for a quick trip.
If you haven't ridden here, you are missing out big time.
It's private property open for recreation.

I ended up riding in here for 7 hours of ride time and camping overnight. And I never seen one other person [ZERO]
The trails are great but you would definitely need knobby tires and a dependable bike!

I ended up setting up camp at a hiking trail head that had a nice clearing.
DSC_0056 - Copy.JPG

I counted 5 big stream crossings and lots of small ones.
The deepest might have only been 20 inches deep but some I crossed I had to be on the gas hard, barely moving and digging a foot deep trench through the gravel bottom , that would make the water about 2 1/2 feet deep.

I doubt that I even hit 1/3rd of all the trails.
Just fantastic riding and I need to go back before winter, anyone want to go?

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
Couldn't sleep went for a 5am ride. Heard valve/ticking/weird vibration noise on acceleration around 3200rpm up to 3800.

CRAP.... No bueno....

Oh wait. This is the first time in a couple of months there hasn't been drink in the bottle holder. What happens when I hold that. Noise goes away. Sigh of relief.
For a plastic cup holder it sure does make a racket!
