Two nerds on a three day trip through Swedish iron manufacturing history.
We drove through the provinces of Dalsland, Värmland and Närke on a 980 km excursion with some of the stops documented below:
Håverud, the only place in Sweden where a bridge for cars, rail road bridge, aqueduct and a boat canal all meet up. Picture from the bridge.
Dalsland's canal exiting into lake Vänern.
Borgvik, started as a sawmill but turned into an iron works. Dating back to the early 1200!
Streaming water always present to supply the power needed. Nature beauty included in the price!
Quick stop at a vehicle museum in Arvika. Husqvarna military bike fitted for snow action. The pride of the army in the 1950.
Pershyttan. Mine and iron works dating back to 1360. They actually exported the iron to central Europe and Russia back in those days. All by horse carriage.
The town is still a living museum. People reside in all the old houses.
One night we slept in an old haunted mansion. Legend has it, there are tunnels below where the Swedish government and other "dignitaries" would hide in war times.
Back home where the local hotel is letting an old steam boat anchor for the summer.
If you ever get lost in Sweden and would like to see some of these places, let me know.
Happy summer to you all!!
