My only REAL complaint, I stress MY only real complaint, is the lack of power below 5500RPM in 2nd and 3rd gears,
I'm guessing your last bike wasn't a DL1000? They don't do much of anything below 5500 RPM in any gear.

I have noticed that 2nd gear does not initially seem as well matched as the others, but once I get on the throttle 2nd does come to life.

There's nothing WRONG with this bike...it is what it is. Most of that guy's complaints are just that - complaints. What kinda a-hole complains about the name of a paint color or what color a spring is? If he didn't know about it from reading and asking around, then it's his fault he bought something he ended up not liking.

I think in his particular case the only thing wrong with the bike is what sits on the seat. Just my opinion, of course 8)

The only real complaint I have is I don't get to ride it enough. The OP is entitled to his opinion and I wish him the best in finding a better adventure bike! ::021::

It's easy to complain without offering up solutions. Engineers understand that a good design is simply one with the least amount of compromises. When the OP designs and builds a bike that corrects all of the S10's "problems", I will be first in line with cash in hand.

I can see it now:

Oil filter mounted between the handlebars (less vulnerable to damage)- check
Radiator mounted behind rear tire (less heat for the rider)- check
Triple horns that play "La Cucaracha"- check

I suppose that is the difference with some "Engineery types" (ET's) and "non Engineery types" (NET'S)

When ET's were young they were going to go out and fix all those stupid things that Older Stupid ET's did.
When they were 30 they started to realise that maybe reality was a pretty tough MOFO, but they were still going to Kick It's ass someday.
When they were forty they finally realized that you have to dance with reality and some of those old ET's were pretty good dancers and could swing reality around with amazing grace and poise.

The NET's are at stage one.

Cheers
Graham

Nope, previous was F800GS.

If only Yamaha could explain why they limited available power below 5500RPM in 2nd and 3rd.... Can't imagine it's to protect the bike mechanically and don't like the idea that it's to protect the rider...

I've wondered that for a while, Wouldn't be the only manufacturer that does it.

The Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook suggests it is there to protect the drive train OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE as it is very hard on drive train components.

So the question to ask is..

Does BMW employ this feature?

Interesting how some of your "cons" are my "pros" and I have had zero issues with the engine (purrs like a kitten). The radiator is in the right place for an off-road bike (ie, they don't work full of mud). I prefer digital display.

I don't believe anyone expects everyone to like the Super Tenere. Plenty of people love their Harleys and I hate them. Nothing wrong with them, just not for me. The big plus for the Yamaha Super Tenere is it gave us (consumers) another choice as no one bike (not even from BMW :)) is right for everyone. I have traded in newish bikes that I decided I didn't like before.

Life is short, trade for a different bike and ride safe...

not AFAIK...
I had a 07 K12GT, put 23,000 miles on it. FD (actually wheel hub to splined shaft became way loose) had to be replaced at 9000 miles. It had big engine braking and pulled hard through the gears. The next software upgrade removed some engine braking and was very noticeable in riding, because I had become very used to it. So yes, I believe they did limit some HP in both accel and decel conditions in lower gears. Course I have no proof and that is one of the reasons, I don't ride BMWs anymore, they make changes and you never know, dealer doesn't even know or will not tell.

Bottom line, if Yamaha limits HP in lower gears to prolong the FD, I'm for it. Ever feel of your FD after a ride? Gets mighty hot back there!

So what's wrong with the Super T?

It's not getting 50 mpg but it does feel like a magic carpet.

Would a doctor's prescription of 200 miles of Super T help? ::002::

From the OP, it is hard for me to believe that he is selling for health reasons. He certainly is proud of his bike at $14.5K. If he is having health issues I wish him the best and hope he finds a bike that he likes.
