OMG....Cant believe how poorly Yamaha setup the SuperT forks??

Between the progressive springs and ridiculous compression valving they are harsh, deflect and crash thru the travel when pushed.

Nice they provided adj comp and rebound but even with the comp all the way out the forks are still too harsh.

I am going to straight rate springs....what are people doing with the valving?
RaceTech golds?
Penskes?
Ohlins kit?
Drilling the stocker comp valve out?

I have a competent suspension guy who will install he guts but he isn't familiar with the SuperT or street bikes enough to suggest valving

Thanks

PS Im Canadian so any advice on where to source the parts either in Canada or a good experience ordering direct from US would be great.

I think there are a few on here who went with Stoltec Moto for their Penske valving kits. Thats where I will be going when the time comes.

I’m in the Stoltec camp. He did mine and am very pleased with the result.

Another good option for you in Canada is to give John Sharrard at Accelerated technologies a call. I have used them for a lot of my road race stuff over the last 15 years and I am sure he could do a good job on these forks. They are 20mm pistons so he could fit an Elka or Ohlins piston and do custom valving with no issue. Pretty sure he has a fork dyno as well.

He is in Buckhorn Ontario.

I just bought a cogent shock . I also put .95 sonic springs in. Plus, I had a buddy put comp and rebound gold valves in and worked on the shim stack. It rides very nice now. I put the springs and 5 wt oil in before we put the valves in. It helped just changing the springs and oil but it was not near as good as it is now. I did a bunch of reading about the Tenere suspension before I did anything and I greatly appreciate the guys on here that responded to my pm's.

Sent my stuff to Konflict, straight rate spring and an oil change were a good start. After having the Penske and forks done at the same time it was much better.

Hello terez. I have not seen a lot said about the handling of the forks but what you have described is my forks exactly. I have the pre load almost all the way in. the compression all the way out and the rebound all the way out. That keeps the front end from deflecting too much when you hit a rock or rut but it still blows through the stroke to bottom without much of a hit. It is ok on the street like that but not great. I am too cheap to spend much on things like that. I try to make what i have the best it can be and ride it.

Unbelievably small ports on the compression valve is what makes it so harsh. You need someones valve with bigger ports that can flow some oil and take out the harshness. Then you can you start to reduce the bleed and help prevent the fork blowing through the stroke.

The tiny hole below is the compression port.

Wow what a difference in the valving! I really don't know of any suspension people around here but i have not looked in years either. I am not much on sending parts like that off in the mail and i especially do not like my bikes down for any amount of time. I have it dialed pretty good for the street but for anything other than gravel roads it needs work. May have to look into this and see if i can find information on valving and spring rates for my riding style and weight.

I heard all of the people dragging those Rumbux cages and the ES crowd complaining about long kick stands, all of that is related to being so undersprung from the factory. They’re barely equipped for a 150lb rider stock let along 2 adults and all the nonsense we bolt on and put in our bags. Step one, respring properly. Step two, profit.
