Per the owner's manual:
"The unified brake system does not function when the brake pedal is applied alone or before the brake lever is applied."
no, I think he is saying ABS does not work on rear brake

My speed when it locked up was around 30mph. I would think that the abs should work if only one break is applied. Not sure though.

of course, it should work with either break or both breaks

How long did it lock up for (less than 0.5sec? should be OK)?

Have you tested your traction control?

I did this test awhile back, because I was also curious how the brakes would work.
I could lock up the rear wheel everytime I used just the rear brake. If I used just a bit of front brake, and then nailed the rear brake, no lockup.
I was going between 15 - 40 MPH when I tried this. I assumed, the ABS works for the rear wheel, but only when the front is also being applied.

Just my observations, and assumptions...

Noooo... I would love it if the rear brake would lock on demand, while retaining ABS on the front. But YES, the ABS does work on the rear, it's just that it allows lockup for a fraction of a second before it kicks in. Don't ask me why, there's no advantage or disadvantage to doing this as far as I can tell. I doesn't lock up for long enough to do any bike control with it, but also not long enough to be dangerous if you do it by mistake...

Why yes they do! :D

What Jesse's did you get? I am going to pull the plug, probably tomorrow and am on the fence about the Odyssey's vs. the 9" Safaris'.

Took a 160 mile ride with the temperature ranging from 34 to 48 degrees Fahrenheit . Thank god for heated grips ::012:: I have only had my ST seven days and with all of the snowy weather and working I have managed to get 500 miles of riding ::26:: Time to give it the first service this weekend ::002::

I just had my first service done on the bike. All they found was a couple of fasteners missing on the right plastic. Also, as I was going to the dealer for the service I was playing around a little and wanted to see how the bike slows down with only the rear brake pedal used. Well, I could get the rear tire to lock up. I did this twice. I mentioned this to the dealer and they couldn't find any ABS error codes or anything else wrong. Their opinion was the rear tire might skid a little before the ABS kicks in. Anyone heard of this??

I saw a video about the bike on YouTube a while back and the guy was explaining that the ABS will disengage if you hit the rear brake first. This was a feature for dirt, where locking up the back can be helpful in some situations.

It was a feature I liked when I heard it, why would you guys not ?

The rear brake first thing is supposed to be for the unified braking, not the ABS.
My last steep downhill had the ABS kicking in pretty well on rear brake only app. The bike never felt like it wanted to run away, and the wheel never fully locked up. I liked the control.
